The VR6 engine is easily capable of running more than 30psi on stock bottom. The VR6 engine was originally designed to be a turbo diesel engine but VW had trouble with fuel delivery and decided to use the block for a petrol engine and replace the diesel with a completly new R5 inline 5 TDI engine. The R5 block is now being paired with an Audi RS2 engine head to produce 1200+ horsepower(Jonus Racing).... So VW pretty much owns. :)

honda lovers.... i tied my friends 93 civic that has nothing but 2 seats in the interior with a jdm b18 and i can admit he is a good driver, i have a 97 gti vr with full leather and a some mods. cant imagine if i stip my whip but i wont. people lets get real. vw isnt the greatest but honda isnt as well. keep driving your hondas. its what makes me proud to drive a vdub. im the only one that always get the attention when im driving up the freeway passing up all you honda drivers.

The car in the video going against the ITR - whatever it was - had a turbo. You can hear it sneezing at the start before the launch and through the first two gear changes when it comes off boost. It's also not stock - sneezing indicates it potentially had a blow-off valve and its exhaust was the louder of the two cars in the race. The Type R did not have a turbo. If it did - its launch would not have been so trouble free and the time taken between gear changes would have been shorter.

agree with most comments, the vr isnt turbo. the b18c5 type r engine will smash the vr any day, but if the vr was boosted it most likely 95% won the race.

I have a 240sx, crx, and jetta vr6. All have great engines, but when stock those vr6's pull hard, otherwise the honda b series is my favorite

Close race. I want to know more about the cars. The few boosted JDM TypeR DC2's that I've seen are only running around 300whp@9-10psi. VRTs usually put down around 300+whp on low boost. The VRTs that I usually see are around 450-500whp. A friend of mine in TX has one with around 700+whp. If that Jetta really is running a boosted VR, that looked pretty weak.

depends who built it who tunned it VR6 motor stock is better then a stock gsr motor... but not better then a stock b18c5 type r motor obviously. in this case both cars were not stock mild modded tunned also depends on driver am i wrong?

first of all i had a jetta vr6 97 and with just an intake and a chip i would smoke the shit out of the hondas and acuras even before i had anything on it, so i know that this car is not turbo charged vr6

any vtec honda motor is better than a vw vr6. you can say vw makes a better motor than honda when they come up with a motor that redlines at 8500rpm and makes 120hp per liter without a turbo.

all honda vs VW beef aside. there is no way that anyone can honestly say that a VRT could lose to a n/a vtec anything. a vrt even at low boost would be pushin close to 300whp. lets play it safe though. lets say 250. you can have all the vtec you want, 80 more horse would beet the honda. stock hondas have NO torque. sorry, but there is no way that is a VRT. you mislabled this my friend, very badly. this vw has to be the 2.0 if its turbo.

I like both cars but both drivers suck! The vr should've been spinning wheels 1st thru 2nd gear regardless of a dead launch or rolling @ low speeds. I have a 98 gti vr 12v with just a few bolt ons and my ride burns rubber like crazy in the first 2 gears and jonthedonable.... it might b a v6 with the same amount of horses like a top end teggy, but torque plays a big difference if you've ever been a car with hp and torque. It'll change the way u think about them vr's.... But in reality vr loss, :)
