As hyperbolic as his comments might seem, I agree with him: we must preserve the ability to die, in the era of ‘life-extension,’ ‘death-anxiety,’ and the absolute ‘avoidance of death.’ The true attainment of tranquility in a society that flees from death is the freedom to die! To anyone who has read Lucretius or Seneca, this will most likely ring true.
