I had just watched a vid in which a clueless reporter was saying the movie was about Marie Antoinette, so I was thinking maybe this person was thinking the same & was referring to Maiwenn. I know three people that would refuse to see it because they're too lazy to read subtitles for God's sake, it's awful. I want to see Jeanne du Barry and Firebrand soooo badly.

following the director's interview, no candles or fire could be lit, because the filming took place in the real castle of Versailles and it is totally forbidden to make fire there :) these are only special effects!!!!

Just saw the movie yesterday (Belgium) Johnny is great in it, he talks way more than I was expecting him to, like he actually speaks quite a bit and almost in fluent French. Great comeback 👌🔥 and the movie is good also, not the best film of the year or whatever but a good film in general

Visually, this film reminds me a lot of Stanley Kubrick's 1975 masterpiece "Barry Lyndon" staring Ryan O'Neil. A visual masterpiece and one of my all time favorite films by Stanley Kubrick! Can't wait to see this one!

Maïwenn, the actress who plays Madame Du Barry and is also the film's director, co-producer and co-writer, did say she was actually inspired by Stanley Kubrick's _Barry Lyndon_ !

The natural lighting or candle light scenes in Barry Lyndon were filmed with Zeiss 50mm f/0.7 ultra-fast lenses. These lenses were developed by Zeiss for NASA to use in their Apollo Moon landings.

It's a short clip with not many lines, but you can learn so much about the various people present in the scene just with their facial expressions and reactions.

And being American, I had never heard of Maïwenn, but I must say the clips I've seen, she is just as dedicated and gifted him her craft of directing and acting as well. Brava.

I've seen the movie he is perfect and the actig of everyone is on point !!!! Johnny is incredible but for me the best in this movie is Benjamin Lavernhe, you will see he is brilliant in this movie. I kinda wish they casted different people for Du barry and louis xvi, they look like they stepped out of a Calvin Klein ad, not 18th-century Versailles. Marie Antoinette is spot on in resemblance and personality (based on what i've read)

Du Barry is so far off base that it's almost comical. I believe it's the film director herself playing Du Barry but she should have cast someone more believable for the character imo. Du Barry was much younger, very curvaceous, voluptuous and extremely pretty.

For those who love the genealogy Johnny Depp has old French origin from the North of France ( City of Dieppe) his ancestor immigrated to Canada in 1770 under the pseudonym "Dieppe" (man of Dieppe) as the family name is changed to arrive "Depp" when the family crossed the US border in 1820 . Johnny Depp speaks the French language well, I must remind everyone that Johnny was 14 years in couple with a French actress/singer Vanessa Paradis whose was born two children who also speak French Lily Rose and Jack . It was just a paranthesis....

Wow, they got the connection, or lack thereof, between Marie and Louis perfectly They were actual children when they married and the first several years of their marriage were stilted and awkward. At one point, the marriage faced annulment because Louis could not provide an heir

Looking at the lighting, the candles and the direction and ... texture of the light in the room and on the faces. Did they use Kubrick's concept from Barry Lydon? Did they use digital high speed/sensitivity "film" (CCD) and actually light the scene with those candles? (available lighting) The lighting looks a bit like Barry Lydon/actual 18th century paintings.
