If your jeans have a bit of stretch you can try applying light interfacing (woven or non stretchy interfacing) to help stabilize the fabric :) Download the pattern (pdf cutting instructions) : bit.ly/3kO5spp

Hi Yoan. Once again, I made another one of your bags and this one came out great and holds everything very comfortably and with room to spare. The only thing I did different, only because I didn’t want to take a chance by sewing through all the thick denim layers of the strap with my machine and possibly breaking a needle (or two), was to sew a piece of cotton fabric that matched the fabric I used for the initial tabs at each end, approximately 4x4” in size. I then ironed on a thin piece of interface (Pellon 950F) to give it some strength and proceeded to make and iron my four folds. When it came time to fold the fabrics back onto itself, it worked out like a charm during the sewing process! No more broken needles for me doing it this way, especially when working with denim. In addition to sewing the squares with the "X" to reinforce the straps, I then put on some rivets in the middle, and it looks really nice. Thank you so much for inspiring me and the time you take to create and post all your tutorials. I can’t wait to work on my next project, which will be one of your designs, of course!

Over the years of quilting, I have made what I call 'baseball' quilts, using my family's old jeans. I found having a walking foot made sewing with the heavier denim very helpful for handling the bulk. Especially when, early on (many years ago) I owned a very basic machine. Lovely tutorial, thank you. (a walking foot is, in my view, a good investment, I have used mine countless times for jean material, velvet, and fabrics such as the double Georgette I used to make my sister's wedding dress.

Yes, I love walking foot, and I use that even in general sewing :)

I’m so pleased that you’ve up cycled the denim jeans! I’ve done this quite a few times and now actively look for suitable jeans ( embroidered if possible) in thrift shops or on line auctions! I’ve used your wonderful Dewey bag and Tote with divider pocket patterns already for these so this will be another fabulous pattern to alternate with! Occasionally the jeans have that little bit of stretch so I stabilise the fabric with a light woven interfacing which sorts that out!! Fab tutorial and pattern! Thanks Yoan! ❤️Xx

Great idea on the interfacing Celia, unfortunately a lot of jeans these days (especially for women) do have some degree of stretchiness, I’d definitely add this on the note. Thank you ❤️

I made this bag yesterday (along with the slim bifold wallet) and it turned out great. I went to the thrift store and bought the largest pair of men's jeans I could find in a great dark wash. The only thing I did differently was not attaching the back pocket as you did. Instead, I noticed a part of the jean I cut which had a slightly curved (on one side) seam. I cut away the fabric from the seam as closely as possible and laid it atop the back piece which had the straight seam near the top. It's just a nice big pocket where I can slip my phone easily, but it lends a certain elegance to what is normally a very casual bag. And despite buying a large pair of jeans, I still did not have enough fabric to make an adjusting strap, but it is still a crossbody, just fixed, which I'm not mad about. : ) Thank you, again, for creating such beautiful designs, Yoan, and for your expert instructions. In addition, your work is impeccable producing stunning results every time. (I sometimes imagine that you probably carry around a sketch book to have at the ready no matter where you are and just chockabock full of ideas! )

Hi Rachel, I haven't tried that personally, but I would say why not...when in doubt, you can do a bit of testing beforehand, perhaps baste it first just to see how it will look, if you're happy with it, go for it. Thank you ♥️
