On the second half of a 2800 mile trip, with 950 miles remaining I noticed the Jeep getting more difficult to turn. I only needed to make it a few hundred miles more for a nights sleep. Down to 700 miles remaining. The following morning I examined the axle, mainly the locker where I noticed it was tight but not fully locked. After backing up and doing some weird movements with the Jeep (figure and such) it appeared it was fine. Let’s head home.

Being a rock crawler is expensive. You and your son have built your TJ's for what you use 'em for. I'm an adventurer and 90% of my off roading is beach and dune wheelin in the Outer Banks because that's what's nearby. I have to travel a long distance to hit good trails. It's great to see folks building for the right reasons. If I move, then my build certainly changes. For now, a 2.5" lift and 32" ko2's serve me well for surf fishing, beach camping and taking my sons to our favorite fishing holes. 🐟 O|||||||O 🎣 Hope you get that great TJ back on the trail soon!

You hit the nail on the head. Some people struggle being able to rationalize for what (realistically) their going to use their Jeep. 👍👍👍

For gear oil, get the valvoline bags if possible. Makes filling diffs much easier with no mess or pumps to deal with

I’ve used the motor oil bags but did not know about the diff oil bags. 👍👍

Yank the carrier and see what is going on. You should be able to get parts for that Eaton if needed. I know this sounds simple stupid but check the unit bearings and U-joints. Unless I misunderstood it sounded like it was locking up going in a straight line, it shouldn't do that even if the locker was engaged. Im curious as to what was wrong.

Changing the fluid helped but is not the fix.
