After watching Jared's video on the 4runner, I went out a bought a 1995 4runner in beautiful condition with a blown head gasket at 105,000 miles. No rust on the body and frame. I took it on as a challenge to prove to myself I could accomplish things as good as Jared could do. Thanks, Jared for allowing me to make questionable choices. After completing the 4Runner I am going Jeep shopping. Maybe one with a lot of rust. I can try my hand at welding. Thanks Jared!

Heck yes!! That's AWESOME!! I did heads on an 04 Honda Pilot - timing belt broke and it's an interference engine. I am kinda a mechanic, but not a professional by job or anything, ended up rebuilding both heads and all, got it running back to normal for under 800 bucks total with tools (needed a few specialty tools I didn't already own) all the timing stuff, water pump, gaskets, new valves (they were bent!!) etc. etc. but yeah it's a GREAT feeling to bring life back to a car isn't it!?! - this Honda had 240,000 miles on it, ended up finding out the timing belt broke because the camshaft on the right head actually wore the bearing out so I had to replace that camshaft and hone the head. It was an AWESOME job to do!! I fixed it though!

hell yeah that’s what this is about! One time Jared talked of that one car that stays with you forever. Jared talked while on the verge of tears about his MKIII Supra. I related so hard. I have a comparatively new 2013 Audi A3 which is that car. First date with my wife? That was the car. Drive away from my wedding? That car. It’s the car that’s in the background on road trip and special life event pictures. It’s a fun yet practical car but had so many issues (water pump, oil separator unit, electrical issues, intake valves fouling, bad plugs and coil packs… etc…). I did so much of that work myself and made the car better with more robust parts. After 100k miles now, it runs so smoothly and even better than when it was new! I have ZERO mechanic background, yet Jared inspired me to just get to work and make my car better. I LOVE this channel, and love this community this channel has made!

@@anthonyblacker8471my 07 Odyssey has 306k on the original engine and trans. Runs like it has 10 miles on it. But not the highest mileage vehicle I've ever owned. Had a 98 Lexus ES300 with 451k back in 2016, it's still on the road and I can only imagine how many miles are on it now

Well that thing was a lot of NO maintenance. I always left my jeeps stock (had 2 tj's and 1 jk) put better tires on them never played with suspension and never had problems with death wobble. Always oil sprayed my jeeps and never had any real rust to worry about and I am in Ottawa Ontario Canada (cars get white here with the salt we use in the winter). Cool build TJ's are great jeeps.

You will not fully cure that with all those parts until that track bar gets lowered. A 4 inch lift is right at the point where it starts to impart bump steer and starts the death wobble. Either the frame end needs to come down or the axle end up. It may not wobble after those parts but as soon as any one part gets the slightest wear it will start again.

Ahhh, major brake repairs. My 2014 ford fusion had to have that last fall. The rear discs were completely seized and not applying any braking force. Ended up with new pads, rotors, calipers, two flushes, and some other stuff on my own time, and then had to take it for a factory service at the dealership because the brake fluid I bought was apparently contaminated. I was going to just do a brake service, but I was at the 50K mark anyways, so got everything done. Expensive, but worth it. Those new brakes feel amazing, very confidence inspiring and I don't lock up the fronts anymore. Unfortunately now I need to diagnose the transmission. I was driving home today, went up a short hill, and BAM, it slipped gears real bad. I thought I had been hit by the following vehicle.

I feel your pain. I have been working on rusty Jeeps for years. I bought my 1999 Wrangler TJ with a dead clutch and rotted frame. I replaced repaired all the same things you are dealing with. I can't believe the irony when you couldn't come up with the name of the Jeep radius arm then explained how you were going to remove the stubborn bolt to get you "back on track". Us jeepers call the link a track bar. I still have nightmares of cutting the track bar bolt with a sawzall and having hot rubber bushing bits bouncing off my arms because the bushing sleeve had seized to the bolt. Keep up the good content and embrace the suck of working on old rusty Jeeps. You might want to make sure you are up to date on your Tetnus shot though.

I feel your pain. I picked up a $500 2002 Subaru WRX out of a family friend's backyard. It was a "I'm tired of looking at it, I want it gone" type of situation. Flat tires, no brakes, and the previous owner (friend's son) and a buddy "put an engine in it then it didn't want to move, so they gave up." I fired it up in their yard, got it towed to my place, and replaced a whole laundry list of parts to get it to drive. I quickly found out the engine would push through the clutch when you would hit boost. Pulled out the transmission and replaced the fried clutch. Finally took it for some extended drives and everything seemed fine. Went to finally put gas in it, wouldn't take fuel. I replaced the plugged up EVAP canister, it took fuel. I cleaned it up, waxed it, polished the headlights, and the day I was going to put it up for sale, it shattered a plastic timing belt pulley and grenaded the engine. I got a salvage yard engine for it and got it all cleaned up and re-sealed with a fresh timing belt and component kit right as winter set in this past November. I'm about ready to un-bury the engine from the corner of my garage and put it back in the car now that the weather has finally started to turn in my area. It seems like every time I get ahead with this car, something else goes wrong. At this rate, I'm not sure when I'll finally be ready to sell it.
