It says in the title that its a test and the camera man is clearing walking around trying to get a shot of all 4 tires. The idea is to leave the tires fully inflated and see how the 4wd system shifts power around and keeps all 4 tires turning. If the pressure was dropped the jeep would drive right out and it wouldnt be much of a test.

That’s still incredible. Whether you know it or not, it’s that 4WD system which allows that to happen. No one else can touch that. Subaru has a good set up too, but this one is king. Locking diffs are not always good for EVERY situation. For example, let’s say the right rear has no traction, but the left rear has moderate, and the fronts have very little, so now the whole thing is relying on the left rear tire. While spinning wheels are fine where the substrate is fluid, like sand or mud, even then it’s always better to not slip at all, otherwise ABS brakes would be worthless. A slipping tire is a tire with less grip than one not slipping.now in our example the rear axle has locked its diff, but instead of the left rear tire pulling the whole vehicle out of the problem, it is forced to slip since the right rear has no traction and spins too easily, thus taking away the little grip the left rear tire had. Careful throttle can help, but human sensation of grip cannot compete with a computer. This is a rare exception, but still, especially on rock or ice, a locker is trouble. Ever drive a Detroit Locker in the rain? You’re sideways everywhere if you begin wheelspin at all, since usually the inside rear tire will spin a little before the outer loses traction, and if only the inner tire loses traction the car won’t go sideways. Turning while both rears are spinning is going to put you sideways whether you like it or not. I like it, btw, but a locker is simply too dangerous driving around in the rain.

All terrain tires fully inflated will get stuck in sand. She needs to get out and take the tire pressure down to like 10psi

This sand is very tiny and wet. One of the most difficult surface for a vehicle. Congrats!

The problem was that the tires aren't aired down. Sand pressure is about 12-19 PSI

Very impressive performance by the Quarda Track II all-wheel-drive system introduced with the Jeep WJ . Just bought a nice clean 2004 WJ with 159K miles on the clock, for rampaging through the tropical wilderness.

My 4.7 WJ was the best 4WD ever in deep sand, tyres aired down though.

Variloc axles and awd transfer case is awesome combo.

Just got a 2001 jeep Grand Cherokee Limited witj 4.7 l v8 4x4 ofcorse an it only has 120 something miles jeep looks show room quality my nanny left it to me she bought it brand new never drove it it's at the shop just getting it hooked up for some off-roading in about 2 weeks it will be ready to go an those jeeps are tanks I got my Thunderbird stuck I the mud like half of the tires were sinking and that jeep pulled it like nothing I like the Jeep better then my mom's monster truck

Lower air pressures and better tires will make a difference. On hot days watch out for the trans temps as the AT will go into limp mode or worse as hot sand and hot AT temps will end the fun in the sand.

Deep Wet sand is awful, I agree with the previous posts, drop the air pressure and it'll get a better bite. It IS a good demo of the 4 wheel drive system tho.

I have 2000 4.7 limited quadro drive not even air down i would just take of in that i put foot dow i go ford no matter how soft that is me with my trailer sometimes but thats about tonne so its warranted i love the 4.7 its actually really good on fuel.heavy foot and it could send you broke vut you get out of what you need too.

your tyres are still inflated, they need to be 10-15 psi

Remember to spin the tire fast enough to keep the treads clean so that they can bite. Don't go off roading alone especially if you're miles away from civilization

To all who say YOU NEED TO AIR DOWN, search Jeep WJ Sanding, hes at 33psi, this will shut you up

try dropping your tire pressure to about 15 psi or one bar, you'll have been able to drive right out of there with no wheelspin.

I just drove my stock Xj all up and down south padre island without using permanent 4 wheel. No issues at all, you should look into some different tires or something.

I have an 03 Overland 4.7HO and I have far less trouble in much softer and deeper sand than that, did you air down at all ? I drop my tires down to around 15 PSI when on the beach.

I don't understand the theory of this test, its a wj with solid axles there is no intelligent drive system. If 1 wheel slips the other starts spinning.
