The 5in Radio that comes with the Jeep Jl wrangler and JT gladiator leaves a lot to be desired. In this video i show you how to swap it to the 7 or 8.4 in radios from MOPAR and retain all of the factory options that would come with the jeep. This is a must have upgrade or some sort of radio upgrade to improve the quality of life for you driving your wrangler.

Pretty cool video. I have a 2021 JL with the 5" and I would love to have the 7" but I wanted to upgrade the climate control for the volume knob. I asked in the forums but they had no idea of it was possible. Now I know it is.

Thank you for this video! Made the swap so much easier than I expected. My old 5" did not have satellite radio, but I want to use that with the new 7". Do you know if there's something extra I have to buy for that to work?

Hi! I experienced a problem with my steering wheel volume and song controls would not work once I installed the 7 inch screen. Do you know of anyway to fix it?

Do you have a video showing how to use the app to flash your computer? I'd rather not have to take it to the dealership or a shop to do that. I have everything else ready to install, I just wanted to make sure I had all I needed so I didn't have to go back in.

I am looking to upgrade my 2018 wrangler JL radio to the 7 inch factory radio. Will everything work fine apart from the volume knob if I do this? I am OK with controlling radio volume with steering wheel but want to be sure I won't have HVAC issues still? Thanks anyone!

Would you be able to tell me what the part number for your climate control was? I was trying to see it in the video but it was not clear enough. Lol

Did you have any issue with the climate control not working on the radio? I just got a second hand 7" and everything works but the climate controls on the unit. Any thoughts?

Hello again... I have everything installed and changed HVAC via JSCAN to Auto Dual Zone (no rear). This is the only setting where the AC/HVAC will work at all. The only issue is I cannot adjust the temp. It is stuck on the coldest setting and the temp will not increase (will be more of a problem in winter!). Have you heard of this?

I mean, the radio swap seemed simple enough, and with all the different configs, there was BOUND to be issues. My question is, why the change in the climate control? Was it just something they wanted to do? Don't think it would be necessary for a radio swap.🤔🤔 Good informative video, bro! Looking forward to future content.🤘🏻

To retain a knob for volume you need to change the climate control. Also to make the climate sensors happy otherwise your stuck using the volume from your steering wheel is the main draw back

I have a 2021 Rubicon with the 7" screen. Will a 8.4" fit into it without issues? I know I need the respective trim/bezel.

You will have 0 issues however you won’t gain much except for the larger screen for similar price check out the stinger high 10 it’s what i run in my JLUR and i love it 10 inch screen i have a video for it i can link of my install

I’m changing from a 5inch radio to a 8.4 but I was wondering will it be a easy plug and play? I have a 2020 jeep sport s and the radio in buying is from a 2022 rubicon and will the climate work as long as I keep the original climate control?

If you keep the original climate control it will work but you will not have a volume knob and will have to use the steering wheel. You also will need to make sure you have the security code to use the radio other wise it will be plug and play with the bezels

Yea i have the 5, worst radio in any vehicle i have ever owned and jeep keeps making them that way. I was told by a dealership employee the 5 and 7 use old recycled windows operating systems from before FCA was even around. 7 is better by a long shot of course, 8.4 had newer software. I want water proof but am afraid to upgrade after how terrible the base 5 has been. Any issues so far?

No issues other than what i said in the video but yeah the 5 sucks but FCA formed back in 11 so i dont think the 5 inch is much older than that. Id recommend upgrading for sure just depends how mych you want to spend what way you go

Got dammit!!!!! No wonder why my heat isn't working . Didn't know about the temp sensors. Changing from the 5 inch radio to the 7inch unconnect way more work than I thought it'll be.

Hello! Great video... is it confirmed that the climate sensor is required for air to work? My new unit w/ auto air does not work at all (auto or manual). Screen (put 8.4 in) says "climate off" and no way to get it to turn on.

Do you get the black screen once in awhile on the 7? Clock time resets? I have the 5 and it's got to be the worst radio in any vehicle I have ever owned period.

I did have the black screen while it was in my JL i havent noticed it in the JT but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen….. yeah the 5 in blows

I just swapped my 5" for the 7" and changed over my temperature controls. I had it at my dealership for 2 hours for what I thought would be an easy flash. They could not get the temperature controls working at all. They told me that my vehicle computer is set up for UAA code and UMG needed to be added to it? No idea here. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

The only help i can give is using the JScan yourself and going through all the options in the climate untill they function the dealer sometimes doesn’t help with stuff like that. All computers made by mopar should be able to use factory mopar options

I went to jeep the only way to get it is from the parts manager who has to request it from mopar

Cheapest would be using the forums it is usually less sketchy than eBay but your still trusting a total stranger. Other than that maybe market place? I’d say just take one out of a junk yard but the problem with that is trying to get the security code from a dealer after

My recomendation would be play with the computer settings and see if there is a different setting for your jeep

You need the vin of the vehicle it came out of and the serial Number of the radio and then the it to a parts manager at Jeep they should be able to Help you out

The radio controls work through the radio and to get it all to work properly and have the audio dial you need the new climate stack. The audio power and control is on the stack. You don’t NEED it unless you want to control volume with just your steering wheel
