1986 Jeep CJ7, 1996 Toyota Land Cruiser FZJ80, 2008 Hummer H3 climbing a hill. Jeep has 3.5" Skyjacker suspension lift, 33" Super Swampers the rest is stock. Toyota sits 3" higher on OME lift, 35" BFGoodrich KM2, factory lockers and TRD Supercharger. Hummer is all stock with Adventure package.

The Hummer and Jeep will benefit greatly by reducing the tyre pressures by at least a third, and maybe even lower increasing the footprint over the rocks. The left side of the rock had less of an angle which is the better line to take, so training would help these guys a lot too.

Thank you, much appreciated. Before buying H3 I was seriously considering 08 Rubicon. End up going with H3 because needed to keep the vehicle stock, it's my wife's daily driver.

I've owned Multiple off road vehicles, including different Jeep models, 4runner, Old Land Cruiser, and Hummer H2 & Hummer H3. The only vehicle not lifted and had LT tires was my H3. which I never let up on in my pastures, the mud, on the mountain or in the sand. by far it topped all the others. Of course everyone is gonna have a different opinion, but like you said you don't want to mess your H3 up. Because it is costly, I sure know it all too well!!! However, I have a heavy foot and a no brake attitude. Give no hesitation and the H3 will perform the way you want it to and not how you expect it to!!! The more you use it as a garage ornament the more likely it'll hang up like one too!!! But I agree it's always nice to have a hooptie 4X4 to abuse!!! Have fun!!! Aloha from Kauai!!!

Nice stuff. I just recently got an old Jeep XJ to tool around in and I'm really liking it, but those Landcruisers have always been pretty serious rigs.

That FJ80 is one incredible machine. I first learned to drive off road in a 1993 and I have a real soft spot for that generation. That is a fantastic build.

I have had my Hummer since Fall of 2005 and can't find anything that compares. Hummer all the way baby. As to Bonky Wonky, you must not have every own or driven a Hummer, you must have Hummer envy

Land Cruisers are IMO one of the top 3 4x4s. The front factory locker option is a Huge plus of course. But overall the suspension articulation, and low range torque make it amazing even if it's not lockered by factory. They are permanent four wheel drive, and have the center locker. I would say the only thing I changed on mine that was pretty important was I updated the front diff on my 98 to a 2000 sealed unit.

Find them all day long on Craigslist where I live in the Pacific Northwest. You just got to know where to look I picked up my stock 78 blazer with a 305 4 speed a few months ago for $700 and rove it back home 80 miles without problems.

I'm a jeep guy but I don't see why it's always a contest. Why can't people go mudding with some buddies and people comment on how fun it looks or what not. Why are all these comments hating on one vehicle or the other?

yea you're right. I love my jeep and I give my buddies a hard time regardless of what they have unless it's a jeep, but they know I'm joking and they do the same to me. It's all just out of fun. But some of these people are so serious and actually get mad. It's just annoying.

+GunEnthusiast Reminds me of this one time when I was stuck in the ditch with my Bronco and a guy stopped by with his Land Cruiser, offering to help. By then there were a number of cars who had slid off the road, mine being one of them (a lot of ice on the roads). And when after thanking him I expressed my concern that he might not succeed and end up in the ditch with me instead, his response was "Well, I've got front and rear lockers. If I'm no able to do it, then I don't know what to tell you. May be then you'll need to call an actual full-on tow truck, the expense of which I'm trying to save you from". Sure enough, he yanked me out of there, although considering the road conditions that day I have to say the credit due was not so much to the lockers as it was to the hard core aftermarket tires he had on. Anyway, that's one of the days I won't forget.

Thank you,for making this comparison video. I own a jeep grand Cherokee 95 and a 97 jeep Laredo. Prefer these older SUVs. But without a doubt if I had the space I would also get a toyota landcruiser preferably the model on video or little bit older.That was my initial intent before I found the Laredo, I could not pass up the price.

You should check out Power Wagons! They started making them again in 05. They come with bigger axles. Swaybar disconnect . For 32" of wheel travel. 456 gears. 12lb warn winch. Lockers front and rear. Rock sliders. Skid plates cover every thing under the truck. And rock rails down the sides. HD shocks. 33" tires, but 35s fit with out any mods! I have one and love it! It's a beast that can go anywhere I point it! Just check them out. It's a true off road truck that can still be used as a real truck. Unlike a raptor sand toy!

With an LSD at each end, that Jeep would have motored up as easily as the Cruiser. And with the enormous aftermarket support out there for Jeeps of all ages, Mitch has a wide-open range of choices to get electric lockers, air lockers, all manner of LSDs, etc. Nice vid, looks like a great day on the trails.

I'd like to add that I'm 57 years old & having a blast driving my beat up 2001 TJ which by the way only rides on 31" mud tires with stock suspension & 1" body lift but by just having a disconnected rear sway bar & quick disconnect front one but the stock differentials (open front / limited slip back)I take on many others on the trail and even go rock crawling with the Jeeps with lifts and 35" and hold my own... The driver is most of the equation...

Need to use a TJ or a JK Jeep. Comparing a nearly 30 year old Jeep CJ to a 2008 Hummer and Even a 1996 land cruiser is crazy.

Harley Alexander Toss a locker in the Jeep, and make all things equal! OR, run them all stock, with the same tires... No lifts, no mods, and the Land Cruiser will still dominate the other two. And I am am a die hard Jeep guy! Or lift all three to run the same tire size and let what ground clearance as it falls. Then provide the same locker front or rear so they are all locked the same way. Then lets see where they fall in order! I guarantee that fat Hummer will come in dead last.

Andrea Thomas Yeah, a good number of FJ80s came stock fully locked (F/C/R). So it would have it made sense that the Jeep should have had one. Unrelated, I just wish Chrysler never bought Jeep. Everything went downhill from there.

Andrea Thomas the Toyota std would be as good as the jeep,lockers in anything make it look good.hummer is not real,re bodied chev,sacralidge to the name,least my bronco has lsd std front & rear,& pulls Toyotas out of bogs after doing donuts round them,35x12.5x16 fc2,good anywhere.[36 mtz on my 75 highboy,cut to swb,[that's short wheel base for you yanks.]

Unfortunately the leaf springs on the 1986 (fix it in your info, eh?) severely hamper it when compared to more modern suspension systems. The H3 has lockers IIRC, so it doesn't surprise me at all that it does well. Great video anyhow. Would love to wheel with you with my 2000 TJ given the appropriate scenario. Cheers.

Land Cruiser is awesome, but it's the only one with full solids. If the jeep didn't have all open diffs then it would do well also.

Yeah I was bidding on XV on ebay but it end up going higher then I was willing to go. End up getting LC. I guess I ended up going the easy road, didn't want to put as much work modifying XJ as it would have taken, when LC end up doing it for out of box.

also I have a 75K5 that is 4linked front and back with 1tons lockers cage hydro asst power steering that does great in the mountians mud snow rocks sand and even drives down the freeway good :)

The H3 isn't a Tahoe, it's a GMC Canyon/Chevy Colorado pickup with modified suspension and beefed up frame. The Hummer H2 was built from a Tahoe/Suburban combination.
