Hey bud can I please please please get a pic of the wiring orientation that’s on the plug coming from the vehicle harness. Mine was cut out an I’m going to use spade connectors to put it on the copper tabs coming off the switch but I don’t now the orientation. Please help.

You are my most favorite neighbor, but you live on KZfaq instead of on my street. You’ve literally carried me through TONS of projects on our 94 YJ and I’m so grateful! Question for you, would you be able to confirm which fuse powers the dash lights? Ours haven’t worked since our baby has been in the family. I upgraded the bulbs to LEDs from one of your videos in hopes that they were just all toast, but nada. The accessory fuse outlet is problematic, as it’s missing a piece of the female end/lower portion of the jaw. I’m wondering if it isn’t a fuse issue (which, aside from the acc, they’re all in good shape) if it’s smart to replace the switch itself like you do here. Thoughts?

Thanks. Took mine apart and cleaned all the contact points and put back together. Good as new.....

Yes, all vehicles have personalities, but especially Jeeps. I think the more you wrench on them, the more you get to know them. I bought my YJ, new in '91. I figured it needed a proper "test drive" so my buddy and I drove from Ohio to California and back, camping most of the way. 'bout half- way through the trip, near Death Valley, I think, we decided it needed a name. Over a few beers that night, we decided it was Rufus. Anyone who knows great film, knows that George Carlin played Rufus in Bill and Ted. Rufus was their guide from the future who guided them through a series of most excellent adventures throughout history in an old phone booth. Seemed like a fitting name. Rufus (the jeep) has taken me, my family, and friends through a series of adventures across the country and through Europe. Nothing beats the feeling of a YJ doing 115 MPH on the autobahn, except maybe fording a rain swollen river up to your missing doors or doing 1 MPH on a class 6 trail in the backwoods of Tennessee. Yeah, Rufus has lived up to his name and hopefully has many more good years ahead. [Google phone both if you've never seen one, better yet, watch the movie. You won't regret it. ]

you had a video that showed how to clean the printed circuit board on the instrument panel (you used hot sauce to clean the corrosion) do you still have that video posted or can you provide the link

Yep! My YJ definitely has personality to her. She's sassy as can be. When I work on my truck too much she gets jealous like yours I guess. She decided to dump the water pump the other day, and after putting in a new one she's still fighting me because it still leaks! That's after I needed new PS pump hoses the week before... Oh well. Just going to deal with the leak for now by topping off the coolant (it's a slight drip that doesn't even make it to the ground, just runs down the oil pan). One thing's for sure, these Jeeps definitely keep you busy!

I'm tracking a needle in the haystack wiring issue with my tail lights on the 91 at the moment! Its always something! Do I remember you stating that you were gonna sell the YJ?

@@Poweraddicts I thought about it but I don't have it in me to give up a rust free YJ lol. I have my Tacoma as a daily now so I'm actually starting a build pretty soon. Fresh motor + transmission, Ford 8.8 rear end, etc. I wanna build it for the muddy swamps we have in Florida but also keep it smooth for the highway

My tachometer lights are out, but my gas, oil, battery lights are on. I'm thinking it's this piece giving me an issue. I've pulled it apart and replaced the bulbs in the tachometer, no luck. However when i turn the dimmer switch up and down the other instrument lights will flicker. What do you think?

Enjoyed both of your light switch video's. I just replaced my YJ dash dimmer light switch with a used one. So I took the old one apart. Inside, all the copper to copper contacts were dirty (cleaned with a micro fiber cloth) on one side but on the other side (away from the circuit board), everything was covered in a green slime. Could this be 32 year old lithium or something? It was EVERYWHERE.

That sticky slimy dielectric grease. Yep, its messy but it is necessary to keep the contacts from building corrosion.

Every vehicle has a personality even when brand new. You can get 10 different vehicles all spec'd the same each one will be a tad bit different in how it drives or reacts to certain things...

That is so true!! My dad has the exact same motorcycle that I do ... right down to the same year and factory paint. Mine is dressed out a bit more. They are totally 2 different bikes when I ride them.

Hey man great vid, I was wondering if you could help me out with a problem I have with my 89 yj, my gauges read wrong, not that they don’t work but for example my gas gauge reads half a tank too high and It’s on empty when it reads half. And every other gauges reads wrong except for my speed gauge and rpm gauge. Was wondering if you’ve got any ideas on what is wrong with it, every video I see about the gauges being wrong it’s always the gauges aren’t working at all. They work but don’t read properly. Thanks to you or anyone who can help me with my Jeep

Check the gauge ground. That will make the gauges go nuts if the ground is bad.

Is there any possible way to get a picture of the plug an what color wires go into it? An what orientation they go into the plug? Some douche cut it outta my Jeep an now have wire an no plug. Please help 😭

yes my 1989 YJ it's very jealous when I work on my cars or my motorcycle or anything else mechanical on someone else's car it'll break down on me the following day or the following week so now I upgraded to a TJ and so far I like my TJ now that I have the 99 TJ with me now the other YG I had mechanics I bought it from ripped a lot of things out that I can't replace and in the machine does not want the Jeep does not want to run properly

Speaking of LED dash conversion would the dimmer switch make the LEDs to flicker?

They actually can yes. Some LEDs are have to have full voltage all the time. Hence can not be dimmed.

My 92YJ Sahara's heater is out. Figured the blower is dead but the AC still blows air? Fuses are good. Is AC the same blower or does it have a separate blower?

my 94 yj dash lights come and go at times. Is that loose connection? The only light that stays on is the passenger seatbelt light,, even when no one is in the seat

It could be a switch, bad power connection, or a flakey ground connection. Seat belt light? You got a fancy rig!! I've never seen one even work let alone stay on.. lol. There is a wire in the seat belt latch, the connector is almost under the seat. Check it for connection issues or the contactor in the seat belt latch itself is stuck.

Well I have to replace my engine, last year it was my turn signal arm and shock mounts. Every deer season something has gone wrong with my jeep.

Does that dimmer switch also turn on the dome light?

It doesn't on either one of my rigs. The dome has it's own switch. Then there are some that has the door jamb switch wired in to turn on the dome.

@Marc Thomas I can't get my dome lights to work at all. It must be some sort of weird collapsible circuit thing. I'm good with electronics & electricity but my dome lights out of been able to figure out. I'll have to tackle it again. I know more now than I did before and knowledge is power.

my 94 dimmer switch turns on the dome light on the hard top...I though they all worked that way.

@@Poweraddicts haha same for me and my 2000 TJ, I've only ever had 1 bad instance with it ever (had a dealership swap out the trans fluid when it was still under warranty, they screwed it up and I got a new trans out of it...3rd gear completely blew up) have done all the regular maintenance since with 0 issues since then

100% my jeeps have there own personality for example none of them like my old lady they act up whenever my old lady tries to move them around the yard then when she gets out and i get in they act fine i dont get it but find it hilarious
