What is Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do?
Roughly translated as 'Way of the Intercepting Fist', Jeet Kune Do (JKD) is a unique and strategic approach to empty hand combat. With a strong focus on footwork, distance, and timing - JKD aims to evade attacks, set up clean shots, and break the rhythm of an opponent.
Although there are many misconceptions about what Jeet Kune Do is, its practitioners can agree on the main tenets on which the system is based on:
- JKD is Simple, Direct, & Non-Classical
- Dominant hand lead stance
- Attack & defense must revolve around 'On Guard' position
- Straight lead punch is the cornerstone of JKD offense
- JKD movement must be efficient, effective, & explosive
- Practitioners must execute their techniques under live resistance
At Core Combat Chiang Mai, we aim to preserve and promote the essence of Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do. Come and join us for training, your first session is free!

I criticize Bruce Lee a lot, but I am impressed with yout JKD jab. You look sharp when you practice and well-controlled when you spar. You are showing really good technique and I'll.be trying to mimic it!

Thank you my friend. Nobody is beyond criticism, especially Bruce Lee. I have to be very conservative of my energy when I train and spar, since now I'm working two jobs!

Thanks bro. By the looks of it, you have a lot of experience sparring with JKD guys. You probably know most of the tricks by now.

@@SakanLam Yea, I've sparred 3 people who've trained JKD. One is an instructor who's also trained a bit of Muay Thai and mixes elements, the other is someone who's trained Karate much longer, but is very passionate about learning JKD (he just recently traveled to Italy though for work, so maybe he'll be solo training, or find another martial art if he can't find a JKD instructor there), and the other guy the one from my recent sparring video with commentary he's trained JKD for a bit, and has taken some new skills with him, but he currently trains Kung Fu and I think he has trained Muay Thai and Kung Fu longer. :) At the MMA gym where I currently train (BJJ mostly) the boxing coach sparred my friend the JKD instructor, and he was very impressed by the instructor's JKD jab which was difficult for him to read :) It's done similar to what you show here :) I've got a sparring video with the JKD instructor that I've yet to upload, but I've got 5 sparring videos I've yet to upload... I need to save some recordings also for when I become a father and will have difficulty meeting people and recording. Most likely I'll do some occassional live videos by then. and use some old footage, when I have the time.

What kind of headgear is that and where can I get some? Oh by the way your straight lead is vicious!

We call these bubble masks... but they are headgear used for Kudo competition. Have to probably order them from Japan. That's where my friend got ours. Thanks for watching, my friend.

Nice. I like how you try to make things work in a more free context like sparring. Just keep the chin down while sparring. Good work guys!
@SakanLam
@SakanLam 5 жыл бұрын
Yeah it's the only way to be sure the techniques work outside a self-defense context. Great advice btw. It's easy for the chin to come up when executing punches with the drop step. Thank you for watching!

Do u pose to open handed or closed handed when performing the jkd guard position
@SakanLam
@SakanLam 4 жыл бұрын
Can be either, just not a fully clenched fist. If your hand is closed then it should be as if you're holding a roll of quarters. If you have open hands, your fingers should be together and cupped slightly (for parrying and finger jabbing).

Sakam im 16 and living in berlin and boxing for 5 years now i wanna start learning traditional martial art or jeet kune but its hart to find a good school because with my box trainer i know he is very good but how can i distinguish a good martial art school from a bad one here in berlin are also a lot of fake schools ?? Thx for help
@SakanLam

Stick with boxing and look for a Muay Thai gym or MMA gym for now. There are a lot of bad martial arts instructors who pretend to be masters of combat. A good one will usually have fight experience and not be a show off. You'll probably need a few more years of maturity before you move on to traditional stuff, as it is hard to find a good instructor. Stick with your coach and find another good one in kickboxing. When your ready, the right teacher will come.

Sakan Lam okay thank you 🙏 my trainer also said that i schould start with kickboxing im just want to do something where i can actually do more sparring in normal sessions because from all the people i watch videos from they say its not really helpful to learn martial arts without real experience.. but thanks for your advice ,which im going to persue to just start when im older with traditional arts.. thx !!
