I don't do JKD but I do MMA and I personally use a vertical jab when sparring. It's so much easier to land and I noticed most jkd guys jab like this. Great punch

Shaun Ritchie he’s an incredible martial artists, isn’t he? And more than his skill and technique, he’s a great leader too...a true man of honor.

Thank you for keeping it real in a situation on the street. Self defense isn’t competition. Fight or flight means you run if you can and fight if you can’t.

Great basic simple drill that is undoubtedly quite effective. I like the front leg snap kick with our without the punch.

We define fighting measure different. Longest weapon to nearest target(knee) with a kick. This puts the fighting measure a little further... which gives the ability for your motion to be forward instead of backward usually... Which in return causes a head on collision and more impact. Falling back is sometimes a necessity though as in your example. We just prefer to hit the opponent before they actually step into that range that their punch is already developed. Pushing forward and slightly sooner catches them when their attack has started it's development vs. it's completion. Good explanation.

When I had been training this for a while and it was well in muscle memory, I was on an international flight and had dozed off. A flight attendant tapped me on the shoulder. I fired off that lead hand punch, but thankfully, I managed to stop it just short of her face. I apologized immediately.

It looks like one purpose of the lead punch is to act like the stop-hiy kick as well. So is one idea that the jeet tek and lead punch are both used as a stop hit at different ranges?

What's going to happen after u do that punch he still going to keep going won't he?

In this exercise example the opponent closes the gap. However, when performing a shuffle step, forward burst etc to invoke a falling step, if the hand goes first then the arm reaches its full extension well before the lagging body catches up. How do we time this sequence so that the bodymass is supporting the hit in this case?
@kcirtapecreip41554 жыл бұрын
I practice on tryng to get a solid strike/punch without relying on my body mass or contact with the ground. If you get stuck having to use these things to give a solid strike you are stuck in a perfect timing body position mentality. What if you are off balance and have to make the strike??? that's reality.

Regarding the fighting measure. Any person that comes to practice with me, I have them putting their arms the farthest they can reach, with a almost imperceptible bend of the elbow, so they don't lock out their elbows, and we go from there. I tell them that I was making sure that they know their reach and that they must reign supreme in that stretch of distance, producing the most impact possible firstly without a step and later on with a step.

I had a police officerin my area say they actually look for guys with the stop hand position or who they were told by witnesses had a stop hand position because these are the people they want to arrest first since they're the ones who are specifically using that position as a defense position that they've learned from martial arts and in some cases even if they don't look for that person that is actually going to cause more aggressiveness by the attacker because it looks too much like a soft weak position that would draw someone to try and attack you and can also act as a lure position rather than just verbally telling someone to leave you alone and having your hands at your side and maybe even standing at an angle vs squarely to someone I personally don't like that position anyway having your fingers open is a good way to get them broken
@AlexEinherjar4 жыл бұрын
That sounds really stupid, so it's probably something the police do.
@robertvondarth17304 жыл бұрын
Hard to discern what you meant without punctuation. So what do you mean by stop hand?
