Jeff Beck was one of the leading session guitarists in the UK before finding fame, replacing Eric Clapton in The Yardbirds. Working alongside Jimmy Page (who would go on to form Led Zeppelin of course) Jeff's guitar ability reached a whole new audience. His bandmate in The Yardbirds, Jim McCarty, tells the story of how Jeff came to replace Clapton in the group and what working with Jeff was like.
Also in this video you'll hear from Jeff's bandmate in the short-lived project, Beck, Bogert, Appice. Carmine Appice recalls the story of how it took Led Zeppelin's John Bonham to ask Carmine and Tim Bogert to jam with Jeff!
The full interviews with these legendary musicians can be found on the VRP Rocks podcast.

@coogan8825 wrong, they were contemporaries 50 years ago, Jeff arguably better then with his Yardbirds work, the figure in Over Under Sideways Down better than anything Jimi ever recorded, but 50 more years on of innovative mastery...no, that's a nonsensical Rolling Stone myth not supported by any professional guitarist worth his salt. No hate against Jimi, I love his work, but it's not comparable 50 years later, no way.
@autk
@autk Жыл бұрын
@coogan8825 lol, Jeff was always the nicest guy when talking about other guitarists, you're deluded by the Myth, over played professionally for 40 years, anyone can cover Hendrix, nobody can replicate Jeff's technique, live in your ignorance dunce cap.
@autk
@autk Жыл бұрын
@coogan8825 hilariously ignorant, Blow by Blow, Wired, There and Back, Who Else, Guitar Shop, You Had it coming, no comparison, Jimi was a singer with a guitar and he could play it well, Jeff was the best to ever pick one up and it's absolutely ridiculous to even compare a guy that died 50 years ago with the Master Alchemist of Guitar.
@autk
@autk Жыл бұрын
@coogan8825 your hero wouldn't make a professional guitarists top 20, I know I've been one for 40 years, covering Hendrix was never difficult, covering Beck is impossible. LMAO at your ignorance, The Rolling Stone Myth is laughable, perpetuated by non guitarists.

Jeff is my all time favorite guitarist and I was lucky to work with him a couple of times when he had the Jeff Beck Group with Rod Stewart and Ronnie Woods. I’ve seen him play a bunch of times since. There is no other like him IMHO and I, like many, am truly heartbroken and devastated. 😞

Goodbye friend. 😔😔 The world has lost a great human being who, in addition to being an exceptional guitarist, was a kind human being, very polite to me and everyone who had the blessing of meeting him. Rest in peace left millions of admirers sad. My condolences to family and friends you were a genius! An admirable human being, sensitive in his chords. Thank God I met you 3 times. See you next time Together with the Eternal where you are. Amen 🙏 🙏

He was a one of a kind Genius Virtuoso who spanned genres and generations with music like no other could play or arrange.. Proper tragic and unexpected loss for every music fan.. Admired and respected by all his peers he was at the top of the tree with Clapton and Page and those guys back then and he had ALL his virtuosity right up until his untimely passing.. The angels will be playing Guitars not Harps this time and he can teach em a thing or two im sure! God Bless Jeff Beck and RIP. (Rock in Paradise!) 😔💔🎸🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇬🇧✝️🙏

This is so heartbreaking. Jeff was a mighty genius of guitar playing. I loved the Yardbirds from the 60’s and have always admired and loved Jeff Beck. What a huge loss to the music world. We will never forget you Jeff, we can still listen to your awesome music. Thanks for bringing joy through your music to millions.

For me, he was the quintessential rock guitarist. He had the look, God knows he had the chops and he was fearless about doing what he thought was best instead of staying mainstream. I cried like a baby when I learned of his passing. He was force since the late 60s.

Jeff Beck was a Brilliant Guitarist. Saw Him in 1980. In Portland. He was a great. To Bad He never surrendered His Talent to the God that Gave Him the ability. We are here for short time then Gone. God Almighty s will is that His creature would fear Him and love Him. About five years after seeing Beck I was in a Bar. Drinking Listening to a local Guitar hero. And I saw I was slave to drugs sex and Rock and roll. I wanted freedom I cried out to the Lord Jesus and He delivered me broke my chains set me free. Gave me Brand new Heart that loved Rightousness. Obedience thirty seven years ago .ye must be Bornagain. Enless u be Bornagain you can't see the Kingdom of God. God have Mercy on Jeff. Only through The Lord Jesus can u be Saved.

In the mid 60's they were very popular. However, their sound was not every ones taste in popular music at that time ! Particularly if the radio stations were generally promoting a more varied 'pop' sound. Imagine if The Yardbirds had not broken up, there may have been no Led Zepplin. Check this clip out ! kzfaq.info/get/bejne/q66HhNeDz62sl6M.html&ab_channel=RalphDWonderllama

Crappy management and the world wanted three minute singles. Roger The Engineer and Little Games were their only albums made AS albums. For Your Love and Having A Rave Up were collections of Eric and Jeff tracks run side by side. In fairness most bands LPs of the time were collections of singles and filler. Rubber Soul,Highway 61, were albums. The Yardbirds made tracks that were collected and made into albums.
