Nah. It's actually based on a guy that the Coen Brothers are friends with in LA. There's a documentary about him. Most of the characters in that movie are based on their friends.

Jeff met his wife in the 70's. She was a small town girl (ironically, she worked at a "*_dude_* ranch). She initially turned him down when he asked her out. He couldn't get her out of his mind, and he finally got her to dance, and they lived happily ever after (I think. I don't read the tabloids - lol). About 10 years after they were married, one of the crew sent him a couple of pics taken just for fun and memories, not the set-up photos that are often taken on sets. They turned out to be the very first moment that he talked to his wife for the first time. He carries them in his wallet. I seen him tell the story about 10 years ago on some talk show, and I know that he again pulled out the pics and told the story again a couple of years ago. The more recent can be found on youtube, but I don't remember what channel or the name of the video ( I was trying to find the story that I had seen just to show my wife). The Bridges family (dad and Beau included) seem really down to earth for a family of celebrities.

Jeff Bridges almost always seems to be in character. So, even back in the 80's I've always regarded him as a consummate actor. Regardless of the types of roles he portrays he's always been able to disappear into them as if he's always been that way. For any aspiring actor, the work this guy has done since back then is worth noting.
