He has an incredible gift for words. And the duality of meanings here... the way it could be about a person, or maybe the inanimate object has been with him so long that it has a personality to him. We all have that thing we talk to when we're alone. We ask it the rhetorical questions we don't ask to anyone else. And it sounds like he sat down and wrote a song to thank his friend who has always been there. And honestly, I think his somewhat gruff voice, imperfect, makes it so much better and real.

I started playing as an emotional outlet when my mom died. It helped me a lot. Since then I've had many struggles and my guitars have always giving me comfort over these last 25 years. This song resonates all the way into the center of my heart. Thanks Jeff. That was a big but welcome surprise.

I met Jeff outside of God of Carnage in 2011. I was walking down the street and saw the crowd of people waiting for autographs, I scooped a playbill up while crossing the street and walked right up to him, as he signed it I said, “you’re best actor working today” he looked up at me and very heartfelt said, “thank you so much”. I’ll never forget that day. He’s a true artist and a kind soul.

As a guitarist of over 20 years who feels like they’ve lost there way and become disconnected from the love of my life that is guitar through so much loss… this is a wonderful reminder of the lifelong friendship and romance we create with our instruments that help show the world (but first ourselves) who we are, and who we can be. 🖤

I love when people discover Jeff Daniels' talent for music. And it's not like he has the most incredible voice... but he has a genuine and honest voice... the imperfections become a part of what makes it great. He has an VERY good gift for poetry, the subtle little plays on common phrases that make the song feel like any love song, but about his guitar... the one who has always been there, never left his side, etc. Such graceful and beautiful turns of phrase. He's played for a LONG time so yeah, he can play these simple melodic lines with complexity under them with ease. He just loves playing his guitar. And it shows. And he does it for him... because he loves it.
