She is. I've worked with Pat, the trainer on Roxy's right. And she always takes care of her elephants. Roxy is her oldest, gentlest elephant and is very well taken care of.

I love elephants. I hate seeing them used for entertainment, tourist attractions, in circuses or used for manual labour. So sad. They're such beautiful, compassionate creatures.

+Lori Burnip That is true. I think that using them for entertainment in circuses and such, is just harsh and inhumane. But I guess this one was a rescue and raised in captivity so they couldn't release it back in the wild because it can't survive. So instead they use it to raise awareness

I saw a video once that explained how elephants are going to be extinct in less than 12 years and I cried. They are so beautiful and majestic. I just love them

Bullhooks are actually used for that reason... its like an extended arm.. but some people use it to punish the elephants... poor creatures getting bashed for tricks and shit...

I can tell by the way she greeted the crowd with the salute and a standing on 3 legs, this is probably a rescue elephant which might have formerly been in the circus.

from 2:35 to 2:45 the elephant is like "STOP IT! Let me eat the watermelon!!" and the lady keeps kicking the watermelon away. Then after she lifts up Jimmy, she's right back to the watermelon. Poor elephant :(

Not sure if you have an experience around animals, but elephants are FAR from the safest. It mostly has to do with size, but elephants are known to be very dangerous to work with. Even with training like this, it is not appropriate to have one interacting with people who are not trained without any sort of protective barrier. In accredited zoological institutions, protective barriers are required even with trainers.

+Aint Commindown I wonder what most dogs must have gone through to be so obedient. Training can also happen without hurting the animal, positive reinforcement is already proven to work better than punishment, which is why it's used with most animal trainings nowadays in adequate environments.

Its called a bull hook. It has a sharp hook on the end and is used in the most sensitive parts of the elephants to gain control. Notice how he is trying to keep it hidden. Some states are outlawing the use of bull hooks because they are abusive.

wolflordjsww then don't bring the elephant on...? simple as that. bull hooks are awful, they hook them behind the ear and it's just not cool. you can totally get an elephant to respect you if you respect it and show it love and such. reputable elephant "owners" or whatever respect their elephant. they're very smart animals and are fully capable of being respectful and easy with humans as seen with elephant handlers who are actually good to their elephants.

kenzers that's why its an emergency tool. Theres nothing more efficient that a leveraged spear. Its there to do minimal harm to the animal compared to any other method. Some people might jump to say tranquilizer, but they fail to realize how slow that is, and when it passes out it will fall over: injuring itself, others, and damaging property. Its an animal. It will be treated as an animal. We don't jab it with spears to get it out there, or to make it do the tricks. We use it when the animal begins to act in a way that it could become a danger. So long as it doesn't become a risk its peanuts all the way.

That was glorious! And Rosario is such a darling beautiful woman you can see how much she glowed in seeing that elephant and immediately went to cater to it. She has such a great heart and I would bet she works in some sort of animal conservation or something just based on how she responded to that animal!

Um, the two workers next to the elephant were holding bull hooks... Hooks that they dig into the elephants skin when they dont do what they want. There is no compassion shown to this animal at all behind closed doors.

It's important that people learn about elephants but it's also important that people know that this is not a good situation for an elephant to be in. Hopefully they only have those bull hooks as a precaution and never actually use them. The place where Jeff said Roxy was from has most of its income come from renting out elephants for parties. That doesn't seem great for the elephants. Although I'm sure it's better than circus life it's not awesome. Roxy is absolutely gorgeous though.

***** Thanks for that. I'm not sure of any of the laws here (in the US) about eles (I might steal that term) but it would make sense if there were laws like that though. Like I said, this is a good way to learn about elephants but I'm not sure they need to have that headdress on that ele (ha!) just to lift Jimmy up.

Well, you don't have to be an animal behaviorist or specialist of any kind to know that one of the greatest threats against elephants is the tourism and captivity. Absurdly many elephants are taken from the wild to learn tricks, like the one Roxy did there, to entertain humans, most of them under unacceptable circumstances. Fallon and his audience is not to be judged, because they obviously don't know any better and just want to be entertained at the expense of dear Roxy. I just hope that he and his audience will soon be informed of the truth behind their entertainment, so elephants one day might be left in peace

When I saw those hooks things I was like no no no no. Everytime I see those, I see a lot of darkness involved with elephants. It just bothers me a lot >.>

WonderEmporium actually those hooks most abusive people use are wrongly used. Used properly, as seen on this clip, it is meant to guide by gentle pressing. Not by jabbing or stabbing the elephant. These guys know what they are doing. Never once did the elephant retaliate to the stick.

For all those people who are saying that this is abusing animals,all these guys that bring these animals to shows only do it to raise awareness about them disappearing from the wild as these shows are watched by millions of people

That's why we have documentaries that show us animals in the wilderness. No need to tour animals on shows or birthday parties like this guy does (go to his webpage) to "raise" awareness. All he is doing is raising his pockets.

This animal is treated like a god you realise? She gets all the food and attention she wants and whether you agree or not, this is enrichment for her. She is playing at interacting and picking up a man doesn’t hurt her at all not even close. She is getting all the social needs she could ever want and will have a happy and healthy life helping to raise awareness

@@fetaflights6361 I understand you might think I'm being cynical but I mean well. I think about how Joe Exotic also "raised" awareness when he was paid to do events and bday parties like this guy does. But it doesn't justify that at the end of the day this is just a business for this guy as it was for Joe Exotic. I believe the type of awareness this creates is plain entertainment and its just as beneficial as people "liking" a Instagram post about saving dolphins. People won't do anything with that information. Instead, I wish this elephant lived in a sanctuary where he could be part of an elephant family instead of doing circus tricks in tv shows

Feta&Flights if you were looking at the lady in the back, she was holding a long stick. Those kind of sticks typically have a sharp point at the end and are used to control elephants with fear. She is NOT being treated like a god, animals don’t like wearing things that are on their face or feel uncomfortable to them
