I don't understand why it used to piss him off so much. I get that it's not a good thing when it happens but to be that upset is so ???. Sorry if this sounds condescending, but I think that the reason the fans would get so upset too is because that's the narrative the show goes with and the fans just buy it. That quitting is the biggest sin a survivor could do and if you do it you are horrible person. That's stupid. There are quitters in every reality show even in shows where the contestants get to stay at a fancy house and eat good food. A show like survivor people are going to reach their breaking point and wanna quit. It adds to the narrative. As long as it's not a lot of contestants that quit, it doesn't affect the show's ability to run.

Coach is a legend personal friend of mine and we speak pretty often. Survior did a bad job at making him out to look like a fool his first go around but he came back anyways and they didn't do it to him that next time and the 3rd. Coach is a great person and not even close to how the first season he was on made him out to be

But he is a fantastic guy from all the times I have spoke to him

It’s happened twice. In Australia though I think the producers knew even if they had built it wel, out of the floodplain the rice could’ve ruined (it was not fully used too soon). They lost all tarps, and Colby his Texas flag. (This was returned). This case they had already screwed up so the penalties were far more warranted.

They actually became friends *after* that season so that was legit attitude he was giving Colby (and rightfully so).
