Don't forget folks: this song is written by Steve Porcaro and David Paich of TOTO and it sounds like.... you have guessed it: TOTO. BUT, for an AOR song it is not bad and Marty CAN sing, no doubt about that. The Jefferson Airplane reunion album from 1989 was a bit overproduced, but so was almost every record in the 80s. It is still contained a lot of good songs! Jorma and Jack just did this one and then went back to where their hearts always were and still are: playing together in Hot Tuna. BUT I still believe they had some fun reuniting with their old friends and former bandmates of one of the most influential and crazy bands of the San Francisco hippy scene: playing some great neo-hippie songs and yes, some AOR tracks. Now Jack and Jorma know what it feels like playing 'Starship-type music': just roll with it, have fun, a few good laughs, some bucks made and then return to serious business. All in all, I like the 1989 Airplane album. Just never compare it to any of the old stuff or to any of the Starship stuff for that matter, just enjoy it for what it is. At least these people are all real musicians, legends, interesting and intelligent human beings.... unlike most of the drivel that is now played all over the radio!

No about Jorma. He was against the reunion and had to be dragged kicking and screaming before he did. He was contemptuous towards Marty's music and the story was be refused to play on some of Marty's hits the reunion tour songs like Miracles. It wasn't till their induction into the hall of fame that he admitted he was wrong. He was incredibly arrogant and he sucked as a singer and songwriter.

Ok so it’s overproduced 80s rock not written by the band, but here’s what we got: it’s a fun song, a fun video, and still Marty, Paul, & Grace being the best vocal front line in rock. They always sounded so great together, and all their voices aged PERFECTLY. Shame Paul & Marty have passed and Grace retired shortly after this. It’s just a fun song

This was from the 1989 Jefferson Airplane reunion album. It's not the brightest time in JA history, but the songwriting on some of the songs is wonderful. Grace's voice sounds like it did back in the 60's during the chorus.

I remember listening to interviews with the various members, most saying they just don't play music the way they did 25-30 years ago i.e. Jorma about his guitar playing. True Love is a good example of the polished studio rock of the eighties; very corporate and pumped out of the machine for mass consumption. Having said that, I like the song. I like the lyrics and I still like hearing all the individual players in this incarnation.

I think the Jefferson Starship of 1974 to 1978 (The Marty Years) were great as well as the Mickey Thomas years of Jefferson Starship (1979 to 1984). Even 'Starship' came out with some great music between 1985 to 1991.

@photoslum8 жыл бұрын
yeah, it is hard to get how pop they are on this stuff. I had high hopes as a 20 year old when this came out. I figured having the old lineup would have pulled them away from the Starship bunk that happened- which was always as bad 80s pop as it could get.

Of all the songs from this 1989 LP, I think this one is my favorite. Marty Balin and Grace Slick performing together again was such a blast for all of us who recalled not only Jefferson Starship but the original Airplane too. I think it would have been a real treat for the fans if Paul Kantner could have put aside his grudge with Spencer Dryden and invited him along on the reunion album and tour as well. But all in all this wasn't a bad effort for the Airplane and while this song is strongly reminiscent of the Starship hits Grace recorded with Mickey Thomas just a couple years before, it stands out. It truly stands out. Not their best work, by far, but a more than exciting flight for the Jefferson Airplane and their fans who followed them for all those years.
