Jefferson Starship is an American rock band formed in the early 1970s by several members of the former psychedelic rock group Jefferson Airplane. The band has undergone several major changes in personnel and genres through the years while retaining the same Jefferson Starship name. The current Jefferson Starship, led by co-founder Paul Kantner, more closely resembles its original mix of psychedelic and electric folk music than the pop-driven tunes it was widely known for in the early to mid-1980s. It is not to be confused with Starship, a spin-off of the group featuring former co-lead singer Mickey Thomas that also periodically tours. The latter group is most frequently identified with the 1980s pop tunes of Jefferson Starship.

@@hakanduranl I had the opportunity and pleasure to often see one of the best cover bands ever. The Volunteers, later to become the Zen Tricksters, played Long Island all the time every Saturday night at the Past Time Pub in Amityville. So I could pretty much say I've seen the Dead about 100x. At the Right Track Inn in Freeport they did like a 10 minute version of "White Rabbit" with Jeff doing an out of this world solo. Talk about blown away. I wish that one had been recorded. Them's was good times!

I can't believe I've never seen this before. I have so many thoughts. 1. That guitar solo is fucking legendary stuff. This version is like 75% intro guitar solo (is it even an "intro" at that point?) and I have no complaints about that, as much as I love the lyrics and Grace's voice. That solo could've gone for another 5 minutes and I would've been perfectly fine with it. 3. I was generally aware that Craig Chaquico is a great guitarist, but I guess I wasn't fully aware. That was some really incredible, heavy, psychedelic jamming. The tone he has on that Les Paul is so perfect... there's a ton of distortion and yet you can hear all the notes cleanly. And I love how he transitions from looking super laid back at the start to looking like he's in a full-body trance at like 4:00. Also... he's 21 fucking years old here. Just amazing stuff. 4. Grace is... Grace. The vocals and performance are perfect. 5. Grace has the biggest smile and almost looks like she's laughing out of glee when Craig's solo ends and I love it so much. 5. As some have mentioned in the comments already, this is legitimately one of the best songs ever written. Certainly one of the top few psychedelic rock songs every written. Not incredibly complex and doesn't rival some of Pink Floyd's best work, but it's certainly a top 5 song in the genre. 6. I'm going to rewatch this at least two more times immediately, and this will certainly become one of those videos I come back to constantly for years and years and years.

kirt schaefer You actually think she interrupted his solo by laughing and saying “cut the cord” and meant it as encouragement?

@@kirtschaefer8025 Craig has said Grace would often chime in on his or others parts. It wasn't appreciated nor taken as a compliment. Grace got so drunk in Germany she called the crowd Nazis and then told the other band members to f#ck off when they tried to calm her down. She left the band soon after.

@@sotis1756 Can you recommend some songs with epic guitar intros/solos? I personally love this live version of "White Rabbit" with the guitar intro - it's raw, gritty and unpolished, yet completely captivating and full of heart. Another excellent one is Frank Zappa's brilliant solo in "Muffin Man". kzfaq.info/get/bejne/or2BlcKFnsXSp3U.html
