How'd you like to win? That's right, whoever guesses the nearest weight of the combined blocks of wax, without going over the weight, closest by pounds and ounces, ( example: 3 pounds, 8.7 ounces), will win some Abbee Honey along with a few other surprise gifts. You can only enter once, and your entry must be made on your comment. After the video runs for 2 weeks, the winner will be notified, and I will send you your gifts. All entries must be in before Friday, September 29th 2023 as the winner, or winners, will be announced when I go live on Saturday, September 30th 2023 at 9:00 am central time. Good luck to everyone! Thanks for watching. God's peace to all. Mr. Ed

You are the winner! NOT! I forgot to mention in the video that you specifically are not allowed to participate in the contest as we are already in a competition with swarms and contestants are only allowed to participate in one event per calendar year. We may have to change some rules next year in order for you to qualify for some of my future give aways . Sorry about the technical point there buddy. God's peace brother. Mr. Ed

(just to clarify that I'm not stealing the answer, 47lbs is about how much a 12inch by 12inch cylinder of beeswax would weigh and that's roughly how big the combined blocks looks to me)

Good Morning Mr. Ed! I must again say that your walking intro tour is as enjoyable seeing the natural landsacpe of your living space as is following your various bee keeping activities. From a natural disaster as your were describing a flood a few years back, a bit of conversion and human ingenuity, and you have created yourself the tools you need for a wax capturing process. I am suspecting that the process is enhanced by quick access to kitchen tools? Here I will leave a guess of 37lbs - 5.579oz of fine bees' wax at the end of a good day! You should make a “French press” for the first scum recovered from the kettle. Put it in a tall cylinder with 50-75% water and remaining scum. Get it hot enough to melt wax. Press the “press “ part down cylinder into the hot water. Take off heat and let it cool very slowly (wrap it up). When done slum should be just debris and a nice block of wax on top

Nothing like the smell of newly cooled beeswax early in the morning 🙂 And the bright, yellow color of cappings blocks is almost like gold. Have started to use my own wax too instead of delivering it for processing and having to buy it back for 4x the price I get for it. Here in Norway it is illegal to use wax that is not heat-treated at 120C/248F, so I bought a big pressure cooker for that, saves me money in the long run and it is satisfying work too.

So smart of you to save your wax instead of selling it. I would never sell any of our wax as no one would pay the price I'd ask for it, and besides, I need all my wax just for my own needs. I have to admit, rendering the beeswax is very satisfying, and the final product is simply beautiful to look at and wonderful to smell. Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my bee wrangling/ bee rescues adventures and let me know what you think of them. Job well done on a ginormous scale. Ive tried several different ways every years. I now use the oven and pool skimmer disposable bags and newspapers for the mess. Only thing I wish I could change is the smell of the debris in the comb during the heating process. Ew, so foul but once I render a few time the final wax smells so good.

:-) You certainly are a man who knows his beeswax ! It amazes me the bees make their own wax, while so many wasps make their own paper cells and hives. I always wondered why bees make wax instead of paper ? I imagine paper is not strong enough for building a honey hive ... ?

Great Vid Jeff. I love your wax processing playlist. You need to shout out to us Australian Bee Keepers. Tough times ahead. Verroa is now here on the East Coast of Australia after someone didn't do their job at the Ports in Newcastle. Bio security is trying to stop it, but i think it's futile. Thousands of hives have been euthanased so far. Take care Brother
@JeffHorchoff
@JeffHorchoff 10 ай бұрын
I am very familiar with the plight of Australian beekeepers after the recent accidental, hopefully, introduction of verroa as so many of my subscribers are from Australia and have kept me abreast of the situation. It breaks my heart the method your government chose to stem the assault with the eradication of so many colonies of bees, infected or not. My personal feelings are the same as yours, it is a futile battle, and now the Australian beekeeper will be in the same boat that most of the world's beekeepers are in, dealing with mite issues from here on out. On my next live pod cast, September 30, I will talk about the issue. God's peace brother. Mr. Ed

@JeffHorchoff Awsome response. I can't even move my hives that dont have verroa yet to a safe zone. Otherwise, im given a ticket by the government. If i do it without a permit, that seems impossible to get. It's like Australia's Covid response, but for Bee keepers. The Department of primary industries have been slow on their response. They're offering compensation. I've heard that's a struggle to get, too. This is ruining peoples lively hood. Take care. Keep on making vids. . One day im a meet you. Steve

Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my bee wrangling/ bee rescues adventures and let me know what you think of them. By the way, I post a new video every Friday morning, and I look forward to hearing from you again soon. God's peace. Mr. Ed

Thank for the opportunity of the contest my guess is 41.42lbs of beeswax you harvest.. Mr. Ed. Thanks for that value info.. I tried to melt wax It was very smelly, difficult and messy & tough to clean, it gets bridle.. But I still have the hopes to find a better way you give me that hope… I think if there left over could’ve be squeezed on a prense we can get the last bit of was left on it..

The more you'r around the bees, the more at home you will feel with them. Heck, I'm guessing in time you won't be wearing gloves and soon after that, you may only be wearing a veil. Best wishes for a joyful journey, you are going to love it! If you really want to extract all the wax from the cocoon debris, you’re going to have to press the waste. If you use a heated press, that could be used on the cooled waste from the kettle
@JeffHorchoff
@JeffHorchoff 2 ай бұрын
I have to agree that pressing the wax would extract all the wax. My problem, I do not have a press that would do the job, but because my process does get the majority of wax, I'm very happy with the results given my equipment. If the cappings are the cleaner wax, why not render them first, leaving the cylindrical filter in place and only removing the course scum from the rest of the kettle, then refilling with water and rendering the nasty stuff? Would save a run of cleaning the kettle
