Happy Easter, Christ has risen! Once again it's time to render some beeswax, and this time, it's all the cappings from our honey harvest last year. The process is pretty cool, at least in my opinion, and the end product is beautiful to look at and wonderful to smell. Thanks for watching. God's peace to all. Mr. Ed

Mr. Ed. Glad to see you harvested a nice batch of wax. For others out there. When you go in your hives and you scrape the burr comb put it in a bucket. I cleaned up my hives a week ago and put it in buckets. I rendered the comb over the weekend and ended up with a 7.7 lb. block. Don't throw out those scrapings. Besides they draw small hive beetles. I forgot one thing. The sludge you collect seems to have a lot of wax in it. Put it in a solar wax melter

@@JeffHorchoff thank you and bless you for doing God's work. They say Jesus is building a house for us in heaven. I for one can't wait to see it, he was a carpenter and has had a while to work on his project. I'm a commercial plumber and so if He asks me will gladly plunge toilets, fix urinals, and change faucets and pipes. ( Do you think there are inspectors and building codes in heaven). I lost a long term friend to cancer and have had a reoccurring dream of her playing tag you are it with children in a ramshackle building made up of homes , sheds, and mansions that goes on for miles in a field full of flowers and green grass. When I catch up to her she laughs at me and tells me it's not my time and runs away. I pray to understand the meaning behind this because it happens a lot and I wake up really sad and crying.

@@JeffHorchoff it's always my pleasure to watch you work. You are the Bob Ross of beekeeping. I was inspired to start a colony that was on a branch in the open here in Cleveland Tx. The colony got busy lt up to three deep brood boxes and tried to murder me one overcast day. They followed me 300yrds to the barn after I left with 40+ stings through the bee suit. My wife of 20+ years called it to my attention while I was on a tea break that they were attacking my suit which was left on the golf cart (30.000 -35,000 bees. I located the queen and gave her the hive tool test. The rest of the bees were disbursed our of the back of my pickup truck along highway 1010 at 75 mph after they refused to be required twice in two weeks. I have nine hives now and am in the process of doing splits with some very gentle bees. I usually only use gloves and a bonnet now. Good luck in your endeavors sir, and God speed.

Mr horchoff - i watched a lady render beeswax and she did something she considered an accident - she poured the melted beeswax into a bucket filled with ice water - she described what happened - she said the wax boiled up vigorously she thought it might boil over but it didn't - the resulting wax rendered into those tiny/little beads some wax sellers will sell in bags - do you have experience or knowledge of such a result - it sounded so interesting because melting little beads for molds or products seems a whole lot easier

Hi Jeff, I was just wondering if you would try boiling a kettle of water, then pour it on what ever you want wax gone from. You can even recollect what comes off by putting a coffee filter on the ground and pouring over it. It works like magic..lol. take care, and love the vids. As the wax is not eaten, and the screen will ONLY be used with wax, I'm not concerned about the screen losing it's food grade status. I think I may have messed up. Wife and I made the trip to Victoria Tx (150 miles) to purchase 160 pounds of wax. We got there and the stuff looked horrible. I got it home and did some initial cleaning. Lined my pot with a 5 gallon bucket paint straining bag. Put the wax in, in batches. Got the pot to 160⁰ and got the wax melted. Poured it up. Next day got the wax out and it's the color of mud. Waiting for Amazon to get my 10 micron filters to me. My question is, will the wax get "pretty" with straining or maybe the guy overheated it? Wife and I had plans to use for "crafts" for trade shows. I just retired and we'd planned on supplementing our income in retirement. The wax cost me $800 bucks. Afraid that's down the drain. Sure hope you can give me some good news. Thanks, Jay

I can't say about the wax you bought whether it will clean up or not, but normally, each time the wax is filtered, it gets lighter in color as more of the particulars are being removed. At least that has been my experience of it. My suggestion, keeping refining it and see what happens. In all my years of rendering wax, I have not overheated it, but I always have water in my mix. Let me know how things work out for you. Thanks for watching. God's peace Jay. Mr. Ed

@@JeffHorchoff purchased a "grease filter" stand and filters. Melted at 160⁰ in a paint filter bag with water. Poured up in buckets. Re-rendered the blocks through the grease filters with two layers of paper towels. Looks like dark caramel brown. Sickening. Found way better wax for the same price. Can't afford to do it again.

Mr.Ed, will the girl's draw out the heavily waxed plastic foundation during the summer - fall? or only during the spring flow? I noticed that you use plastic frame's to withstand the high velocity extraction.

Generally, bees draw comb when there is a nectar flow. AS long as food is coming into the hive, they will build comb. However, it is mostly limited to the spring and early summer months. Thanks for watching. God's peace Carl. Mr. Ed

Makes me wonder if you could save that water and then distribute it somewhere less messy when the flow is low and you usually end up feeding anyway... Not sure if it would be worth the effort or not, but just a thought.

I've been watching your videos for a while. You have a great sense of humor. But here's what I wanted to say... I don't really understand why your wax has such color. Wax that I get from cappings is yellow, even lemon sometimes. If you don't mind here's life hack that I've been using for a couple of years while straining the wax. I use nylon tights in two layers. So there's no need to burn your strainer to clean it. Thanks for your videos and good luck! Слава Україні! Шана ЗСУ! Подяка всім, хто нам допомагає! Ми переможемо! 🐝🐝🐝✌✌✌🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦

The capping wax is used for Monk Soap as well as Abbee Honey. Capping wax is suppose to be the best type of wax to put on foundations. I have thought of many ways to recover the honey from the water after rendering, but in the end, simply pouring it on the ground works very well. Thanks for watching. God's peace Vicki. Mr. Ed
