Christopher, your videos about both art and design are wonderful. Thank you for this video about Jeffrey Gibson’s exhibit in Venice. I had the joy of being in Venice years back during the Biennial and it is still stands as a travel highlight.

Let's not overlook Gibson is a proudly out LGBTQ artist whose work touches on that aspect of being considered "other" (i.e. "I AM A RAINBOW"). The Leigh Bowery mention touches the surface that queerness is also a part of his identity.

The U.S. should be proud of Gibson's exhibit and his representation of America. However, I'm afraid, in my opinion, resistance and protest in the art world have become cliche.

I like the way Gibson does it however. The message is slightly subdued and his use of color is phenomenal.

The muses have left the pavilions. Cultural craft contextualized and capitalized in the bubble of contemporary art. Identity and social justice trending. Good grief. Formulaic and predictable without a shred of nuance or dynamism. Zero mystery and thus no connection to or exploration of the unknown (aka no expansion from current stances). Counter culture. Resist conformity via the optics of media and marketing and the trends they use to manipulate. OR…Cool. So colorful and crafty. Love the native motifs with the Obey vibes.
