During National #DonateLifeMonth, we will highlight recent organ donors at Phoebe. Today, we honor Jeffrey Hammond. The donation of his kidneys, spleen, lymph nodes and heart valves saved multiple lives and brought some measure of comfort to his large family as they grieved his unexpected loss. My son late 30s was rushed by a friend to hospital some months ago having a severe asthma attack and the nurses completely ignored him in the waiting room even though his friend was asking and asking for help. Oh praise God he just made it. It's unreal so many lose their life from asthma. Wet eyes here watching Jeffrey and his lovely wife, adored little girl and family.

No one should have to pass away from Asthma attack's. My Mother was a COPD patient, heart patient also and she fought to catch her breath. It was so scary and she was a fighter. She couldn't donate her organs after she passed away in 2013. Thank you for donating your's. You are Herioc for doing that. Rest in Heaven peacefully. Your Daughter will be proud of you. As someone who has fought for her life on 3 different occasions from asthma exacerbations I understand what he went through. Rest peacefully now Jeffrey in Gods arms. My thoughts and prayers from New Zealand to his family and friends.🕊🙏

I pray his family is healing while they grieve the loss of they're loved one is painful, I know I buried my daughter 4 days after she was born on July 10,1989. And it feels like yesterday. I get daily reminders and the day comes rushing back In my mind. I will keep you in my prayers❤️🙏❤️

Sadly, there are no better words in any language to say I’m sorry. They are so inadequate. Since they are all we have, I am so very sorry for your loss. All who loved Jeffery are in my thoughts & prayers. From any lives that he saved, I say thank you! It is a gift beyond words. Jeffery will live on through them, his beautiful baby girl & in all of your hearts. RIP Jeffery & Gods Speed.

I did not know this family, but I am sorry to hear about the passing of a husband, father, son, brother, nephew, cousin and friend. Even though he is not here on this earth, he is alive in Heaven. He is looking down on all of you, and he is saying “I am ok” because I am with the Angels in Heaven and most importantly, I am with Jesus Christ. Remember all of the good times that you had with him on this earth, and it is ok to laugh about the good times that you had with him. As his daughter grows up, tell her about her father and how he touched many lives while on this Earth. When I think of Jeffrey, he was a blessing to others by being an organ donor. He has saved many lives because he was an organ donor. He seems to be a very caring and loving person that would give the shirt off his back and could turn a frown into a smile 😊. May God Bless You All!!

It's scary for me because my son is about the same age as him and has suffered with severe asthma all of his life. It would absolutely crush me to lose him. My heart goes out to this family

I've had Asthma for over 24 years and it has become more severe and easily triggered as Iget older. Asthma kills. If you can breathe - nothing else matters. I lose conciousness when i stop breathing but am always relieved when I wake up because I know I may not have. So sorry for the loss of such a young man.

Oh God bless this family,I know what’s it’s like to hold my entire family as they passed too young but I don’t know what it’s like to loose my only child. Sadly he lives in the same city as I but chooses to spend all his time with women instead of checking on me,I’m extremely ill and I miss him .All I want is for him to realize life is so short..

I feel blessed to have heard of Jeffery, his life and his organ donation. I truly wish he had been able to live a very long life with his fiance and child. However he will continue to live on, not only in the hearts and minds of his loved ones but in the bodies of those whose lives he has saved. he is the definition of a Hero and I hope his loved ones see him as just that. A HERO.

I also have suffered from severe asthma most of my life. To have the most natural thing for your body to do, taken away from you, it’s a feeling that you can never fully get across to others in a way where they could possibly understand. But it’s a feeling that you never get used to, the inability to take in that next breath. I’ve been on a respirator twice, and I know exactly what it feels to resign yourself to the fact that one of 2 things is going to happen, either I was going to die, or I was going to end up on a respirator. Once I came to terms with that, a calm settled over me, and I was at peace. My father always referred to my near death experiences as the day I knock on God’s door, but thankfully he wasn’t in that day. I think the only way we can make sense of any of this is to make sure the world around us is educated on this disease that effects such a wide range of individuals, and their families. Teach the public on what is the correct form of action to be taken if ever they come across someone who is in desperate need of help so that they are able to continue to take in that next breath, and the one after that, and the one after that.

Prayers ascending for the ones who are left behind. I look at things that he saw the face of Jesus, and everyday we wake up we are one day closer to seeing the face of Jesus and those that got there first. Jeffrey passed on my bday, this was a huge blessing to watch. I lost my husband to covid September 3rd 21. Been a ruff year for many. We've been signed up as organ donors since we got our licenses in the 80s, but never giving much thought to it. We have been praying for an unknown donor and the donor family every night, hoping they make loving and lasting memories and cherish each other while they can, not knowing what is ahead of them; almost like we know a tragedy is ahead of them. We found out earlier this year that my husband needs a kidney and a heart and was just approved through an almost 3 month long vetting process of several kinds of scans, multiple labs, repeat appointments with doctors, surgeons, social worker, psychologist, finance team, nutritionist, and the transplant coordinators for each organ, which will come from the same person. It's extremely humbling to know that someone's life had to end to save yours. These honor walks are so special and make me cry every time... sometimes out of guilt. I am so sorry for Jeffrey's family and wish them peace and love.

Sept 9,2020 my middle son died from what started out as asthma attack then cardiac arrest and human error! I didn't get a chance to even see or make any of these selfless acts. Thank God for all the donors and love and prayers for the families 👪 that followed thru wishes or felt lead to do. Amen
