From his first motocross GP win in 2010 through to his 102nd in May 2023, Jeffrey Herlings’ journey to record-breaking success in MXGP is quite extraordinary.
Under the spotlight since joining Red Bull KTM Factory Racing at the age of 15, Herlings has won the easy way, the hard way, and won against all the odds as he fought back from multiple adversities to not only win GPs, but secure five world titles in the process.
Discussing his favourite season, his most important victories, and his early racing dreams, Herlings relives just some of the highlights behind securing 102 GP wins and setting a new record which is set to stand for quite some time…

Indeed! Like Sebastien Loeb, Herlings is very humble, and humility can be a powerful allied to keep your own ego in check, because we all know an out of control ego can quickly divorce a person from hers or his natural talent. Great rider. I'm a fan, but small bike wins shouldn't count toward a record like that any more than amateur wins. Only wins against the very top contenders should count.
@Sn0w1981
@Sn0w1981 Жыл бұрын
I disagree, the field is usually a lot tighter in MX2. And a lot of the top contenders are also riding mx2 at that time in their careers. The record for most GP wins has always included MX2 wins in the past. I do think they keep count of the MXGP wins in another record.
@CaptainSteve777
@CaptainSteve777 Жыл бұрын
@@Sn0w1981 "A lot of the top contenders are also riding mx2 at that time in their careers." I've heard that many times. Of course, it's true to a point, but doesn't matter. Those riders aren't the best at the time and at the peaks of their careers. The proof is that when MX2 riders move up, they rarely win right away. They aren't at their best yet. Herlings sandbagged in MX2. He shouldn't be celebrated for doing that. What would you say if they let him go back to MX2? Would you still add those wins? Of course not. MXGP wins should only count if they beat the best at their best.
@Sn0w1981
@Sn0w1981 Жыл бұрын
@@CaptainSteve777 I wouldn't call it sandbagging when you're competing in MX2 World Championship at 16 to 22 years old! He also didn't win right after he moved up to MXGP.

@@gibso9395 Toni Cairoli has the most 450 wins. However then you could argue that he has had more 450 starts... You can downplay all the records set in the past as the rules and classes have changed multiple times over the years. Maybe a "premier class- starts to wins percentage" would paint a more satisfactory picture? On a side note: I'm sure KTM has something to say about which of their winning team riders compete in what class to ensure more factory championship wins for KTM.
