This one goes over the drum editor, one of Cubase's best features. I also cover a bit more on quantizing and MIDI editing.
Believe it or not, the kid slept throughout the filming! Studiokid...

Oh man, I am learning so much from you. Although I'm making music for more than 20 years, this production thing is kind of new to me. Your explanation and examples are easy to understand, and what I really like is that you mention all the shortcuts and handy tools to make producing music easier. I am using Cubase Elements, but most of it works the same. Keep on doing what you do, it's more than great!

Though it's hard for longtime users to be mindful of this, Cubase is uber complex and utterly mind-boggling when you are a newbie. Many thanks to you for taking the time to do this, Jef! As previously stated, your video series fills in the gaps quite nicely.

Thank you so much for this video! I've been having a really hard time getting into Cubase and feeling really lost in my grad program where I'm apparently one of the only windows users on campus (everyone else uses Logic). This was exactly what I've been looking for to get my feet on the ground and actually start to understand what the heck this program is and how I can start to use it. Thank you SO MUCH!!!

Thank you Prof G. I’m thinking of getting Cubase (Mac). Logic’s doing some pretty annoying pitch bend drifty stuff now, & I’d like something that’s really good for MIDI rec. All things are pointing to Cubase. I’m hoping it handles the whole CPU, latency, buffer size dance well. I work mostly with vst’s & occasionally use Motif XF8 & Kronos. I’m using a “trash can” 3.5GHz, 6-core, 64GB RAM, 500GB SSD (about 50GB remaining). I record to external SSD, have many sound libraries on another, and Time Machine on yet another. I’m hoping to put Cubase sounds & goodies on ext. SSD. I’ve watched many of your Maschine vids & I really dig your teaching style & your vibe. Looking forward to Cubasing! 🎹

I have been using Cubase since 1993 and this is the first time I have not immediately updated to the latest version, because of all the bugs reported, but your use and workflow make it look as if C10 can be used just like 9.5, which is what I require, at the moment. Also I have not been a user of Quantise, but both your videos have described the use of, much clearer than any I have have seen before, thank you for the fresh view, even us old-timers need a bit of that, cheers :)

Hi Jef! Really like your videos, long time Live and Logic user, but learned music production on Cubase long time ago and thinkin about coming back - especially because of the video-capabilities which sucks in Live on Windows 10. You give a nice introduction to the new version 10, thx! I hope that a lot more videos will come and especially (advanced) Cubase tutorials - and even more especially in the context of the KK s61 and your Maschine Mk3. I have the exact same setup, and would love to see more about how you integrate both of these hardware instruments with cubase (i already watched your maschine template video, great!). Two suggestions for further videos: 1. get one of those overlays with the keyboard shortcut you are using, that way the viewer can always see what you are doing and you don't have to mention the shortcut every time. I really like that when it comes to program-tutorials! 2. Make time-stamp chapters in the description on longer videos - it is really nice to have the overview and be able to come back fast and easy to a specific part of the video for re-watching. One last thing, I also hope you will make a video on how you use and setup Kontakt - I use it via Komplete Kontrol, but the routing out of Kontakt is not something I dabble in, as I work very fast in the production phase (for better and worse). One last last thing - a template video, if you use it, would also be awesome. One last last last thing - a studio tour, where you introduce your guitars, synths effects and so on would be great! All the best to you, will be following! Jonas, (Denmark)
@jefgibbons
@jefgibbons 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comments Jonas! I'll look into those key command overlays, I think I'd need dedicated screen capture software, which would be worth it... I'll look into your other suggestions as well!

Very helpful, Jef. Thanks for the great tutorial. I am a composer/pianist doing some basic DAW experimenting with my kid. I have a computer (PC) a Yamaha MoXF8 synth, a good sound card and Cubase LE 9. I want to use my Yamaha as a controller (like you do in the videos) to play and record the Cubase sounds like HALion Sonic SE 2. Cubase seems to be set up to make me use the tiny keyboard/piano roll, but I can play it in better with a real full-size keyboard. Any thoughts or direction (i.e. get a full version of Cubase, get a better interface, get some cables!) would be so helpful. Thanks!
