If the WNBA was stagnant, had even lost ground, and then Caitlin Clark comes along and the WNBA all of a sudden becomes relevant and shoots upward, then that is not Caitlin Clark contributing to the growth of the WNBA, that is Caitlin Clark GROWING THE WNBA. As a Black male, I have no problem stating that this recent growth in WNBA attention has NOTHING TO DO WITH Angel Reese or any of the other rookies nor of any of the veteran players. Only a disingenuous or inattentive person would say otherwise. This recent renovation of the WNBA is due solely to the Caitlin Clark Construction Company - sole proprietor.

The WNBA generated 200 million last year
@s.w.warbirds4126
@s.w.warbirds4126 11 күн бұрын
@@Big_Los704 The WNBA is owned and subsidized by the NBA, which brings in over $8 billion annually in revenue. The NBA itself is a private business association of 30 franchises. If you do the math, the WNBA costs the ownership of each of the 30 franchises roughly $333,000 per year. This is because the WNBA loses about $10 million each year. While $333,000 might be a lot to an average person to lose each year it amounts to less than a quarter of a percent worth of revenue that each ownership group brings in even after paying NBA player salaries. Thus, for the NBA owners it’s a small price to pay for giving girls the chance to play in a professional basketball league. If WNBA players were paid according to their actual value relative to the NBA players rate, the average WNBA player salary should be around $3,000 per year. That is their true labor value.

Jemele says that people like to watch Caitlin because she shoots 3's and that's exciting. Jemele then says that the bigger players that play in the paint dominate the game. Instead of attributing the increase in viewership to the public's enjoyment of watching the more exciting style of play, she chooses give the credit to racism. She then plugs her race hustling buddy Bomani; who also doesn't understand that people don't want to watch the dominate slow bigs in the paint, so he insinuates that it must be racism also. Does that sum it up?

Here are genuine suggestions (from a male perspective) to make the WNBA more marketable (keeping in mind so many fans think new fans ruin franchises): Huge halftime shows (Pink?), cute animals as cheerleaders, selfie booth with green screen and props, throwing (arm-)ribbons on the play for various causes and the girls would pick them up and wear them kinda like a hat-trick, comments on the megatron, women-oriented merch (any suggestion here would look bad, so...) candles with logos, bathroom accessories and make ponchos (apron-tank) a WNBA thing, not an old-fashion ones, have it so it rests like a tanktop but hangs down (idea cause guys/bfs might wear them too)

Jemelle talks about the inception of the WNBA whereby it started off hot out the gate. Eventually people realized that the product wasn't good. Thus, the fanfare fell off and the teams had to relocate their games to smaller and smaller arenas. At no time during the downturn of the WNBA did the WNBA experience the current degree of celebrity status experienced today (people wrongfully use the word "notoriety", but notoriety has to do with recognition of the negative kind. Celebrity is recognition of the good or positive kind). However, at the rate AND current direction in which the WNBA is now headed with this anti-Caitlin mess, the "celebrity" will soon revert back to "notoriety".

I wanted so much to be a fan of the WNBA but all the drama, jealousy, bullying, racism, whatever has definitely been major turn off. I will focus back on baseball now. WNBA missed a golden opportunity and did market their new young players properly. I was always a casual fan but was drawn in again by Reese, Cardoso and Clark. The bias against Clark is sickening.
