You asked about the name Lucerne and over here it is the name of a company that produces dairy products such as milk, cheese and yogurt. Hi Jemma. Lucerne is a high protein crop. I think it is named after being first introduced to Europe at Lucerne in Switzerland. In some countries it's called Alfalfa. It is Legume like clover, peas and beans, meaning it has nodules on its roots that fix nitrogen, so it doesn't need extra artificial nitrogen fertiliser. I know Hanford Feeds, Dorchester (now MVF) used to grow and dry it there until the mid 90s when it became cheaper to buy imported.

I know the struggles with waiting, I spent a total of 6 hours at two different ports a couple of weeks ago. I was around your way the other day, saw one of your drivers coming out of Portbury on Friday morning. They were in a Merc.

Lucerne is much higher in protein and calories than ordinary hay seeds. Commonly grown in Switzerland (where the name originated) and also Germany. Very few farms in the UK grow it. Lucerne is a leguminous plant ( like peas, beans and clover) and is called Alfalfa in the US. It is very high in protein and is made into hay and is incorporated into animal feed.

You probably haven't got room on the truck but you can buy a good used compact folding bike for under £50 to save long walks, especially if it's raining. I guess the mirror lights are LED otherwise the ceiling could get very hot.
