This woman blew me away. As a young white kid my first experience in a black home was at my best friends house and his mom was a lot like this lady. Honest, strong, fantastic cook but holy crap did you want to avoid pissing her off. I made sure all our toys were cleaned up and vegetables were eaten and homework was done cause if not you would get the lecture of a life time. But she was a very loving and wonderful lady. Very similar personality. She knew how to make any stranger feel welcomed and loved without sacrificing her strength and authority as a mother.

this is similar to my childhood experience with black moms - it's one of the reasons I have always said we need black women running the country. It sounds like such a stereotype, but there's a strength and kindness that seems unique to black women.

My mother is a diagnosed bipolar and so is my biological aunt. I don’t know if I have it or just have learned behavioral patterns from them. I don’t struggle with drugs or mental health because I have chose to live a mundane life with very little stimulation. I think it is beautiful to be boisterous, and that is one trait I see in Mrs Lewis and in myself. She is an instant hero in my eyes. I never had a dream to keep me from being a coke head, but I sure knew, like Jenny here, that was not going to be how I treated my body- my temple. -Love From Colorado

The operative descriptive words for Jenifer Lewis are COURAGE and TRUTHFULNESS. People (in general) are judgmental of a person's WORTH by; how they fit, behave, their camaraderie, perceived strength, & value the public figure brings to who he or she associates with. It can be brutal when a person in the public eye don't fit these categories, consequently society can inflict mental cruelty (or the circumstances degrade the person). The person affected need (timely) intervention to not be harmful to self. I see loss occur repeatedly in socialite's lives (Jenifer spoke of Whitney Houston), it's costly to the celebrity, family and friends. I'm thinking of Prince or The Artist, a poignant example of a talented person cut short (of life)...timely intervention is crucial (he died the night before he was due for professional assistance). 😫 Trevor Noah asked critical questions...it's good that Jenifer's FOCUS (her dream), kept her true to self. We can LEARN from her.
