Hi, my name is Jenna Montano. I'm a nurse practitioner with Norton Community Medical Associates - Endocrinology. I'm born and raised here right in Louisville, Kentucky, and I chose to become a nurse practitioner within endocrinology because I have type 1 diabetes myself, and I have a strong passion for it, and I want to be able to relate to the community. So within endocrinology, I will be treating patients with different forms of diabetes, thyroid disorders, and any other condition within the endocrine system. I'll be treating patients 13 years and older and following them throughout their adulthood.
So within the world of diabetes, technology has come a long way over the years. Specifically for me, back in 1997, I remember growing up wearing an insulin pump with a tube and having to check my blood sugar seven to eight times a day, which can be a lot specifically for kids growing up. So now with the use of continuous glucose monitors, it allows people living with diabetes to not have to stop and check their blood sugar. They can simply look at a monitor or their phone and look at their blood sugar and see the trends and not have to feel burdened by diabetes day to day.
When you first come to see me, I truly want to get to know you for you. I want to get to know your hobbies, your passions, what you like, what you don't like, your family, your support system, what you have in your life around you to help you manage this disease. It'll allow me to get to know you better, and it'll allow me to help you physically, mentally, emotionally live your healthy life.
So I was born, raised here, right in Louisville, Kentucky. I went to Sacred Heart for high school, and I attended the University of Louisville for my nursing degree. I chose to work in the ICU and cardiac cath labs for a couple of years before I decided to go back to obtain my master's degree at the University of Louisville as well, to become a nurse practitioner. For fun, I love to spend time with my family and friends and my dog, Charlie. I love to travel, be outdoors, be active, and spend a lot of time in the sun.
