A judge sentenced both James and Jennifer Crumbley to 10-15 years in prison for their roles in the 2021 Oxford High School mass shooting committed by their son, who murdered four students, injured seven other people and terrorized a community using a gun that he had long begged for.

The attorney of Jennifer Crumbley is a detriment to her client. Her behavior, delivery, and arguments simply emphasize self-entitlement and blame-shifting. This is one case where the client would have done better representing themself.

Quick reminder - these 'parents', as soon as their kid was arrested, went on the lam. They ran away. Basically, *they ditched their own son.* They booked it to Detroit, possibly on their way to Windsor, Ontario, Canada. The Detroit police department received a tip from a business owner, and arrested them. *There was no indication that the Crumbleys had planned to surrender.*

I"m trying to understand how one gets past the fact that not being an attentive parent, substituting a gun, with violent undertones, instead of jumping into your childs life with both feet, is a travesty. You let down the Parents of the Children Murdered, The parents of the other school children, and most of all Your Son, who was damaged beyond recognition because you were too busy, with other things. How many more parents like you, at your age, are out there, with kids who will set their sights on Murdering other children simply because they are happy, and your kid is not.

With these parents being convicted, it opens a door for all parents to be convicted if their child does something wrong. If you give your child a car and know that they have consumed alcohol in the past. You can now be convicted if they kill someone in white driving drunk. If your child has anger issues and kills someone because you didn't have them under a doctor's care or put in a nut house, you can be convicted. This ruling has opened a door that can't be closed. The fact that they are arguing that they were "hamstrung" and that evidence wasn't allowed in just shows that they truly do not believe what they are saying. They have no remorse for the families and victims, they only care about themselves. Trying to blame everyone else instead of taking responsibility is disgusting! They should put themselves in the victim's shoes and really try hard and think of what justice would look like for them... They are absolutely culpable in this horrible and tragic situation, they bought the gun and let Ethan have full access to that gun, PERIOD. Their lives will go on with their son alive and at some point down the road will be able to communicate with him, they unfortunately will never get that opportunity. When reading a statement to address the victims and the court nobody wants to hear the "but!" I'm sorry, I feel terrible, but... To ask for time served and probation "as long as you deem necessary" takes balls and is absolutely INSANE!!! SMFH 🤦‍♂️💯

Law at the time says not required to lock up gun

@@Charmander009 There's the letter of the law and there's the spirit of the law. Common sense says you don't buy a gun/leave it unsecured for your lonely 15 year old son who told you he saw/heard demons. He self medicated by drinking, they found multiple empty bottles in his room for Pete's sake. They didn't tell the school they bought him a gun. As a parent, you are supposed to know your child. Honestly, I think they bought him the gun so that he would unalive himself so that they could go on living their selfish lives. But he ended up shooting up the school, they panicked and knew THEY were in trouble.

The parents want to blame the school. The school officials want to blame the parents. As an outside observer, I blame both parents & school. School is hiding behind some bogus state immunity. I hope that the lawyers for the grieving families find a way around that. Of course, I am not blaming every employee of the school or district. I am blaming the people who were in that meeting regarding the violent graffiti on the math paper. Between all those people in that room, I think that it is criminally negligent that neither Ethan's bookbag nor locker were searched before sending him back to class.

I think the difference is that the school took action - you can argue that they didn't do enough, or didn't do the right things, but they clearly cared about Ethan and tried to help. They called in the parents and wanted them to take him for therapy that day. The Crumbleys not only did nothing, they undermined the school's ability to put any plan into effect. They were openly and deliberately obstructive.

@@CreaticityIsLife Telling the parents their child is suicidal without doing anything to rule out homicidal tendencies is gross negligence, especially when it comes from someone with the title counselor. It can lead the parents to believe they shouldn't do anything to cause him further distress ie. take him home against his will, and could easily make them think he isn't a risk to others (remember the school allowed him to stay--clearly they believed he was not a threat to others and the parents understood that as the message). The school had the responsibility to keep every child safe and failed to do so. They are just as guilty as the parents who didn't secure the gun.

I honestly wonder about the intellectual level of the patents. I don't mean psychotic. But it's pretty clear they have no clue vis-a-vis how to parent. Freedom and rights being what they are, there's no way to prohibit couples that are deemed to be horrible parenting material from having kids, and that's probably as it should be. Just devastating though to see the wreckage, that standard parenting interaction would have precluded😮

I'd say they were below average intellect. She has a flat affect when she speaks, which indicative if some mental issues, whether it's emotional or intellectual, you'd have to test for with a forensic psychologist. We live in a world of self-absorption. It's not limited to kids who haven't outgrown childish me-first behavior. Some can be so clueless as to what is going on right in front of them. Is it by choice? Is it a learned response to survive their own traumas? Regardless, our lives intertwine with others. If we'd only all learn to be kind to each other, and t a ach that by example, we might have less tragedies and less court cases like this.
