The show got it wrong by putting shepherd's pie it should have been cottage pie cause it was definitely need beef, sautéed with peas and onion... That bit got me maaad 😅

Technically beef is the correct answer because the question is how it happened on the show NOT the correct way to actually make a Shepard's Pie. In the episode, Rachel said beef (with peas and onions), so the correct answer is beef.

In the show yes, that was in the script, however Sir Ian is pointing out that it shouldn’t have been. A Cottage Pie contains beef, not Shepherd’s Pie.

Yeah the writers got it wrong. They confused shepherds pie with cottage pie. Lol. Easy to get wrong. I've lived in the UK my whole life and it took me a while to figure out the difference. I hate lamb so I never eat shepherds pie 👍

That distinction was lost in the ocean. We call the later Shepherd's Pie, even here in Canada. Even my Lancaster born warbride grandmother, who made the beef dish all the time, called it Shepherd's Pie. Not many lamb dishes, over here.

I'm assuming that it had to do with what was available when the dish was brought over; I don't think the name cottage pie is used all that much in North America as far as I know. I realized what Shepherd's pie really was years ago but I know most people here just generally use that name for any type of ground meat (usually beef) baked with a layer of mashed potato on it. Having said that in Quebec French we call the beef version (which also includes a layer of corn), "pâté chinois", which literally translates to Chinese pie.

I'm sure she is sometimes, but that's what everyone knows her from. And almost everyone who watches TV knows her. Plus, the residuals, that will keep coming until she dies should mitigate the "inconvenience" of having a massive fandom.

I just googled that, and was surprised to find all the American Shepherd's Pie recipes use beef, not lamb! Which for me is logically totally wrong, but hey, never mind.
