I'm Dr. Jennifer Teeter. I'm primary care sports medicine, non-surgical orthopedics, and I also take care of osteoporosis, bone health management. I love the musculoskeletal system, bones and joints and muscles, taking care of athletes, and also helping the aging population prevent fractures.
I enjoy sports medicine. I like working with athletes. I like covering the sports on the sideline and working with the athletic trainer and the athlete and the families to allow them to participate safely in sports, but if they have an injury, trying to work through the mental and the physical aspects of injuries in sports. Working with physical therapists to get them back on the field, so they can get back playing the sport that they love.
When patients come in and they have an injury, and it pulls them from their sport, it's devastating. Obviously, they want to play their sport, and they realize that they're not going to be able to for a while. Some things need surgery and some things don't, and some things get better sooner than later. But either way, they're out of their sport for quite some time. But just trying to explain to them that, with their injury, they're not able to participate safely, and we have to think of the long-term outcome of that joint. So just trying to keep their mood positive, try to recover from the injury, and give them encouragement that after their treatment, whenever that might be, that they'll eventually be able to get back to their sport and be happy again.
I'm originally from Buffalo, New York, and I went to college in Buffalo. I went to medical school in Erie, Pennsylvania, at an osteopathic medical school called LECOM. So I'm a DO, which focuses more on the musculoskeletal system, and also the root cause of the problem, and thinking more mind, body, and spirit. And I went back to Buffalo and did family medicine residency, and then did a fellowship in sports medicine. I have extra certification in osteoporosis management, bone health management. And I moved to this area about six years ago for my husband's job. He also is in sports. He's the head of woman's lacrosse at the University of Louisville. And we moved here. We live in Southern Indiana.
So right now, I have two young children, and so I'm very busy driving them to all sorts of sports and after-school activities, and watching them grow and develop. I do like to spend my free time with my children and my family. I also enjoy going for coffee with friends, and yes, I do talk with my hands.
Biography/ Philosophy of Care
Jennifer M. Teeter, D.O. is an orthopedic sports medicine physician with Norton Orthopedic Institute. She earned her medical degree from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine, Erie, Pennsylvania. She completed an internship and residency in family medicine at New York Medical College in Valhalla, New York, and a fellowship in sports medicine at State University of New York, Buffalo.
Dr. Teeter also is a certified clinical densitometrist with over 12 years’ experience as an osteoporosis specialist, and currently is a provider on Norton Clark Hospital’s bone health team. She is board certified in sports medicine and family medicine.
Dr. Teeter is the team physician for Floyd Central High School in Floyds Knobs, Indiana, and Indiana University Southeast, New Albany, Indiana.
