Thanks for sticking with me ❤ Taking a break would not fix the underlying problem that I have, it will come back even if I took a break. I'm not taking a break, I've got to make changes to _how_ I make videos It will take a few weeks for you to notice any change in videos - I typically work on a 1-2 month backlog.

Well done Jen. As you probably recall we did a similar thing with Every Disused Station. Visiting countless industrial estates and housing estates to point at where an old station was... and feeing the need to HAVE to do that was breaking me! We changed up and started telling stories. So much easier. So much happier. Carry on!

I think we all get that burned out feeling and sometimes it's good to step back a bit. Once you're on that content creation hamster wheel, it's easy to get stressed out and even resentful over something that should be fun. Certainly I've had that - there are days when I want to bellow obscenities and down a bottle of whisky. Slowing down a bit is not a bad thing.

Hello Jen, I hear what you say and often feel the same way. I think it was in 2009 when I joined up but to be candid I've been on KZfaq for so long that I've lost track of time. Making films is indeed very time-consuming and at times we all need to focus elsewhere too. Being with others, domestic chores, working, even eating and sleeping. We must look after our health, as that way we have the vitality to live - rather than just exist. For me it can be very frustrating, I really want to multi-task 'all the time' as I also have a 50+ page website with some pages that are very much in need of updating, plus I'm a keen gardener as well as looking after an aged relative and generally having a social life with real-life humans! Oh and also I want to spend more time on railway modelling too! I just try to do what I can when I can - at times there will always be other priorities - even if it means that I only make a couple of KZfaq films a month, then so be it. So please take it easy and enjoy the journey. All the best, Simon

I'm sorry to hear that Jen. I have often wondered about making videos about e.g. flights/trips to Japan etc or on my brain condition (hydrocephalus) as I have VP shunt but I'm too shy to do that that. I've spent all my time over the last few years watching mainly aviation and train content on youtube.

I really feel for you Jen. I did KZfaq for 8 years and I had to quit for the same reasons. It's a format that requires full time commitment and rewards you with almost nothing in return. Not many people can live the type of lifestyle that is necessary to maintain that level of work as a side hobby. I hope you find a balance that works best for you! We really care for you and want you to be the best version of yourself.

I'm so very glad that you're not throwing in the towel or anything. Your videos are such a delight to watch. I often save up a few and when I'm having a really bad mental health day, I'll make myself a drink and a snack and sit down to watch a bunch. I cannot tell you how much they help. I really struggle to turn off my brain and watching your videos are one of the very few things that helps me do that, at least for a bit. I was drawn to your channel because it felt more authentic and that's why I've stayed. I'm here for whatever you bring our way and I'm very grateful for it. You help me escape and show me places I don't know if I'll ever be lucky enough to see, so thank you for that!

I enjoy our chats, even the hard ones. I am perfectly fine with your videos being postcards from here and there; come here, dont go here. You dont have to expound on the data or history. Just show us you joy, perhaps point to the frustration of something. we identify with that as well. I wrote a blog for several years and came to find it very consuming and challenging. Jen, I 100% feel you on this one. I started - kinda by accident - started doing a Twitter series on disused stations in Edinburgh. Overnight, I went from 50 followers to 300, to 600, to 1,000. Suddenly, I had to be SO much more careful, check and pre-write messages, worry about mistakes, come across more professional, etc. And it stopped being fun VERY quickly. That obligation to do it again, then again, then again. Nowhere near on your scale, but I know how it feels. You're spot on. Be good to yourself.

I think that being a completist is very stressful and I think the very nature of our hobby (and anything connected with a love of transport is a hobby, whether you can be creative about it with youtube or, in my case, blog writing) is to be completist, be it to visit every station, ride every Class 150, whatever! I'm a bus enthusiast first & foremost and I think the challenge with that is that there's far more to it to "get in the book," as it were. But I came to the same conclusion that you have many years back, just do it at your own pace and so it because it's fun, it's wrong to make these things a monster! All the best, Jen!

Hi Jen, and partner, You must make time for both you and your other half's private lives. That is more important than anything else. You are making absolutely the right decision to reshape the way you make your videos. There are a few ways you could do this, either once a fortnight, or 3 a month giving you one clear week off, or only when you feel like it, making it up as you go along. You could also just do principal stations that have a lot more interest about them. You could tour the oldest working stations. It is true that you currently get to visit places you wouldn't have gone to normally, but at an unhealthy cost to you. Just re think, take your time and pace yourself. We will all still be here for you, whatever you decide. I too have a channel, a little different to yours but still rail orientated, on a much smaller scale, usually made either in my shed ir at my club rooms with an occasional visit somewhere. Quite a lot of the places you visit I will have been to through my last job which literally took me all over the UK. That is why I enjoy your channel as it brings back memories. Take care Jen, Look after yourself. x Jon B.

I absolutely get this feeling. I was making a silly webcomic thing a couple of years ago, with multiple posts per day, 7 days a week and while I loved doing it, putting aside 7 or 8 hours a week just to create it was eating into everything else. I was afraid of losing momentum or losing fans by making things easier on myself, but I did it anyway and it made the world of difference. I discovered that people love you for what you put out into the world, not how much of it or how quickly you do it. And I truly hope that you can get back to a better balance soon :)

As a fellow small creator, I agree entirely with the whole burnout thing. I uploaded daily (ish) to try and catch up with a year+ backlog of content I've filmed across the country. After Christmas 2023, I ended up just stopping doing videos for a good 4 months, I simply couldn't pick up the editing software, I was that burnt out. I've seen so much hatred, harassment, and toxicity too within transport circles - it really doesn't help mental health matters when you have to see that constantly, I've even seen plenty towards bigger creators like yourself and geoff, who arguably are some of the kindest people in the space. Thank you for doing what you do Jen, and thank you for being so kind the times I've seen you in person ❤

It seems to be a common theme at the moment that KZfaqrs are struggling. I don't do my channel to earn from it as I'm lucky that I don't need to, but from a personal perspective have been trying to get to 3K watch hours and really finding that hard at the moment. Views going down, but subscriber numbers rising, videos I think that will do well bombing big time and then the odd negative comment. All I can say to anyone in a similar situation is to keep going, work through it and enjoy as long as the good days out recording out number the bad days.

To create videos at your level of quality takes a lot of work. And the results speak for themselves. I think it's that way with any hobby; to make something (whether it's art or music or sport or model railways or youtube videos) takes effort, and once you get to that level there's a risk of it taking over your life. It's easy to bite off more than you can chew and end up burnt out, or your partner complaining that you're running off to film things and leaving her by herself. I wish I had the answers (beyond winning the lottery so I can give up my job to spend more time on my hobbies.)

Jen we love your videos. Let me be honest the best thing you can do is look after yourself and your partner. Take a couple weeks break I am sure you have some videos we haven't seen and probably some funny outtakes that we could watch. We watch your channel because we love your charisma, humour, your passion and most of all we love you both. Your mental psychological and physical health is important. For the next few weeks try using videos from your archive of unseen footage which I'm sure is vast and maybe use a couple of uncut videos. We love the authenticity of your videos and your relationships with other content creators. Your openness to let your life and to give subscribers a snap shot of what it means to you to be a trans woman. and your for the trains as well as the countryside. The most important thing is we love you. Take care of yourself and your partner for a little and then come back refreshed

Makes sense to change your approach and get back to something that's fun to do again. We'll keep watching whatever you do.

I don’t understand why that KZfaq is doing to everyone who is on KZfaq and having to change policies and regulations with so many videos that are on KZfaq. KZfaq should be a place for where people can upload videos of their own experiences and exploring the wonders of how people go out to places and make videos that are enjoyable to watch. I hope that you will continue on making more videos on KZfaq.

Hi, Do what you enjoy, do what you need to do, If we can watch, that would be nice, but mostly look after yourself and partner.

Do what you have to Jen. My fave YT channel is Fran Blanche, she's talked a lot about the horrors of trying to make it all work. I'll simply say Love From Liverpool and enjoy whatever you create, but only do what works for you. 👍

Really enjoy your videos Jen, I'd say you're in my top two creators. But you do what you need to do to find the proper work / youtube / life balance, there's nothing as important as your own mental wellbeing, followed closely by making sure your relationship is healthy. The other stuff comes after that and if that means we have to wait sometimes for a new video, well so be it. Take care.
