This is Jeopardy! Now entering the studio are today’s contestants. An advertising copywriter originally from Miami, Florida, Frank Selivan. A freelance copywriter originally from Plainview, New York, Lois Feinstein. And an energy demonstrator from Waverly, Ohio, Greg Hopkins. And now, here is the host of Jeopardy, Alex Trebek!

To me, this sounded like two things happening. At first, it sounds like jumping into a portal to transport you to Jeopardy's location. Then when the main theme starts, it sounds like you've arrived to an exciting place after you been whirling around in the portal for a while. Things change over time, but as a little brat seeing this, it was a memory that stuck with me.

So much to love about this version. The anticipation it brings, the masterful 80's synth mixed with conventional instruments, plus the fact it's the version used in the NES game. I hope they play it again sometime, even if it's just for 40th anniversary nostalgia purposes or something.

Word!! I used watch this show with my grandmother back in the early 90’s and I LOVED THE INTRO!! The way it started when you hear a little talking from the audience then the (Swoom) “THIS IS JEOPARDY” by Johnny Gilbert then that hard driving sympathizer came in and the contestants walked in was GREAT!

The extended intro in this version is just awesome. In the “bongo era” 1992-97, they would revert to the extended intro for tournament episodes, and as a kid I remember how that added to the tension.

The 1992 theme was extended and pitched down for finals openings. Then the part where the bongos start was kept at its original pace after the pitched open that's cut.

And to think., Merv Griffin made this up for a lullaby for his son. Even he likely didn't know it would turn into this.

For anyone asking, this full-quality theme has been available on the Classic TV Game Show themes CD, released in 1997. I bought a copy of it in 2001 at Barnes & Noble. It also has ‘88 “Feud,” ‘72 “TPIR,” ‘78 “Card Sharks,” ‘73 “Match Game” (the original, not the looped broadcast version), and many other gems.

I love the fact that such a CD exists

Not gonna lie, there should've been a CD set called "Game Show Cues" where it features every cue from lots of game shows, each having their own CD box which consists a CD for each era of the game show. For example, a "Family Feud" CD box would have like 4 or 5 CDs, each having cues fro the different eras like the Dawson era.

When JEOPARDY began in 1984, contestants retired after a 5 day limit. Well, those days are long gone. CONTESTANTS NOW KEEP WINNING UNTIL A NEW CHALLENGER BEATS HIM/HER & BECOMES JEOPARDY CHAMPION. I LIKE THIS FORMAT BECAUSE CONTESTANTS CAN WIN A LOT MORE MONEY. Kenneth Huang 1/27/23.

They should've dusted this off for the show's 40th season, or maybe as a tribute to Alex Trebek. It would've been pretty cool to hear it used against the current blu-ish "Jeopardy!" set, even with Ken Jennings as the host.
