Obviously people who are good on Jeopardy tend to know a lot more about science, history, politics, the arts, technology ... etc than they do football, but they'll usually get one or two of the questions right. On this particular day none of the three knew diddly about football, which is why that was the last category (and why it was so funny). I knew all of them, which is why I wouldn't make it on Jeopardy because I don't know jack about English Literature or the Ming Dynasty.

Football never has, and never will, be any cornerstone of Jeopardy. This is show about science and history and culture for people who actually read a book once in a while. Bear in mind, there's a clip around here of famous football coaches reacting to this video...and THEN being asked the Final Jeopardy question. They all got it wrong.
@thammar19902 жыл бұрын
@@SpreadingtheMuse sports, entertainment, and pop culture almost always have a category on jeopardy. And sports is very much "culture".
@SpreadingtheMuse2 жыл бұрын
@@thammar1990 "pop culture" and sports are two different categories. Whereas movies and books are frequently asked questions, specific sports categories like this one are far rarer. The kind of person who could name a starting line-up from forty years ago are also, for better or worse, the same people who likely havent read a book in too long a time. @@jeffnaslund Those are reasons to be proud of. I agree. However, even if they didn't know the rules and weren´t interested in football, it's not a reason to laugh at them. I can sincerely admit that I didn´t know a single answer to these questions, but I have a university degree in two different natural sciences. I love soccer (btw. for us football = soccer) and ice hockey, those are our national sports. I even practice sports myself. Nevertheless, I can't stand American football. For me it's extremely boring sport and quarterback is a dude that catches a ball from few meters and throws it to someone else - nothing spectacular. However, that's only my personal opinion and I respect people that like it. There are millions of people around the world that don't like ice hockey or even don't know what it is, but it's not worth contempt or laugh. Everyone has some strengths and some weaknesses, that's what makes the world nice and interesting. :)

@@refgenesis just chill a bit, there Sparky. It's extremely rare for all 3 Jeopardy contestants to not be able to get a single clue in a whole category so that is noteworthy. Nobody is making fun of them for that, the interest is mainly in the category - something so perfectly American that most would assume everyone has been exposed to/knows something about. The fact that they didn't is actually funny but still nobody is making fun of them, it's just really odd.
