The doubtless answer is yes. The difference was already very very big even back then, and the Watson today, is much much improved in its coding and speed, from the Watson 10 years ago. That would be a massacre. Basically like Magnus Carlsen playing against the latest Stockfish or Alpha Zero. MAYBE he would win 1 out of 100 games, although even that would be surprising.

This is like Michael Jordan and Larry Bird going up against LeBron right now. It would be shocking if James doesn't win.
@hotwax9376
@hotwax9376 4 жыл бұрын
Not really. This is more a test of mental and intellectual skill than athletic ability. It's true that LeBron James would probably beat Michael Jordan and Larry Bird today simply by virtue of his being younger, but mental capacity doesn't usually diminish that much until much later in life, if at all. In any case, Ken and Brad aren't much older than Brad. As of this comment, James is 34 or 35, Ken is 45, and Brad will be 42 in a few weeks. (In contrast, Michael Jordan is 56 and Larry Byrd is 63.) The only thing where James' status as the younger player might be an advantage is speed at hitting the buzzer, which shouldn't be discounted but really doesn't mean much if you don't answer correctly. Anyway, my money's on Brad. He's undefeated so far against a human opponent (including Ken) AND holds the record for the most cash winnings across all of his appearances. Not to mention that his team won the All-Stars tournament within the last year.
@PersonOnEarth
@PersonOnEarth 4 жыл бұрын
Agreed 101% Can't believe Ken used age as an excuse for if he loses... come on man, 10 year gap is so miniscule for knowledge and recall it doesn't really matter. If anything he should have a 10 year all-round knowledge advantage. It's not a bodybuilding contest. Hoping my man James dominates heavily but I highly doubt it. it will be close between James and Brad. Brad's cool too so I'll be happy to see him win. Gonna be good no matter what.

I can't wait but I know who is going to win. These three guys are brilliant. I love them all but there will be one winner and that winner will be... Brad Rutter. Brad is the least known of these players but he came in a solid second place against Watson. Ken Jennings came in behind Brad and I don't see this changing. Brad is now 41, the same age as Vishy Anand. Chess players are in their prime at this age but will age make a difference? Quizzing and speed are different tests altogether. James got beaten two out of three times by Emma Boettcher but James has the advantage of being the youngest and the freshest of the three contestants. It's also not all about knowledge but about who is fastest to the buzzer. No one knows who is fastest amongst these three guys. We need this competition. Alex Trebek deserves this. Again, my money is on Brad.

ken is the fastest on the buzzer. there are stats. ken rang if first 61 percent of the time in 80+ games, james rang in first 57-58 percent first in 36 games. and brad is somewehe between in recent epsidoes. also, they all playes (brad and Ken) just before james came on in that strange format they did against the top 15 people of the last 5-10 years all young. Austin was one of them and one was a teacher, when ken went up agasint these 2 big champs, ken rang in and answerd the first 8 questions when alex trebek said "are the other 2 of you signaling devices working??" Austin said "unforuantely yes"

no worries, I thought maybe you just mistyped that actually :)but I have been arguing this point for years so I was real quick to point tha tout. in fact, in the 2nd of the 2 matches ken nearly beat Watson. nearly.
@davidhunternyc1
@davidhunternyc1 4 жыл бұрын
@@Johnadams20760 Now I see my mistake from my previous posts. Yes, Brad did beat Ken before but it wasn't in the Watson tournament. Last night, Ken just happened to get the "Daily Doubles" when it mattered and to his credit he capitalized on them. Did James get any "Daily Doubles'? I don't think so. Even without the "Daily Doubles" James still ended up only $200 behind Ken so this tells me James has the momentum going forward. But let's talk about the elephant in the room, Brad Rutter. Wow oh wow, my heart is hurting for him. He was undefeated by a human coming into this tournament but, like he said, it looks like he lost something. His exact words is that he sometimes has a difficult time with "recall". Based on his past performances he at one time had the knowledge to beat both Ken and James but it looks like aging is taking a toll on him. What I mean by this is that the buzzer must be pushed within milliseconds and this kind of speed is next to impossible for most of us but at 41 years of age his reflexes must be hampering Brad. He also missed a lot of "Daily Double" questions. He had the most of the three last night and squandered most of them. Again, if he had more time I think he would've come up with the answers for all of them but his brain has just changed a bit, just enough to not compete at the level with Ken and James. So sad to me. This is human. In the end, we all fail. I bow to Brad Rutter.
