Pastor Jeremiah Wright recalls growing up with parents who were both ministers, attending college during the Civil Right Movement, joining the military, and finding his calling as a minister. Wright discusses his friendship with Barack Obama, him joining his congregation at the Trinity United Church of Christ, and the controversial sermon that made Obama distance himself and how their relationship changed.
Jeremiah Alvesta Wright Jr. is a pastor emeritus of Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, a congregation he led for 36 years, during which its membership grew to over 8,000 parishioners. Following retirement, his beliefs and preaching were scrutinized when segments of his sermons about terrorist attacks on the United States and government dishonesty were publicized in connection with the 2008 presidential campaign of Barack Obama.
From the 2021 three-part HBO documentary series Obama: In Pursuit Of A More Perfect Union. The personal and political journey of President Barack Obama is explored that weaves together conversations with colleagues, friends, and critics, alongside his own speeches and interviews.

Jeremiah Wright is just bold enough to talk about issues that most avoid. He clearly makes valid points and his issues need to be recognized.

I don't know how exceptional or anointed I would have to believe myself to be or how utterly inflated my ego would have to get before I could feel comfortable or justified approaching another to request that they temporarily abandon their career, stop practicing their vocation or otherwise put their affairs on hold *for ME...* I am completely giving Obama the side-eye on that one *TOO!* During mass, there were several benedictions that the priest would recite that we, the congregation, would then respond to. Like brief prayers they are reminders to be loving. For example: *Benediction:* Peace be with *Response:* And also with you A single adjective like _"amazing"_ does not properly describe the wisdom and love communicated in Pastor Jeremiah Wright's benedictions: *Benediction:* Everybody your color *Response:* Ain't your kind *Benediction:* And everybody not your color *Response:* Is not your enemy In a world full of people being wildly rude and inappropriate (considering themselves "keeping it 100") or withholding (regarding themselves "diplomatic") I respect Pastor Wright's forthrightness in his answers. Thank you Pastor Wright for modeling truth and emotional integrity.

Having heard from you has been a gift. No narrative played out of context can remain except to whom God pleases..i think it was for your safety that you were silenced and set apart. Your mentorship is engraved in the President Obama s heart. Your pain of human judgmentreflect the dpth ol love in reflecting God's will. Less one would have an idol in ones heart. To God be the glory. Peace ✌

One of my 777 wake up calls was getting blasted in the back of the head without the chance to turn around, by an African American brother for trying to to tell a white brother about the Maafa, and how just because I cared about the black baby in the womb it made me the racist. We are all good friends now. Please keep up the good work journalist and Reverand

I was really enjoying this till I got toward the end. You're wrong, that's not how we were raised in my home. My father escaped communism and we were just trying to make ends meet, we face many tough times and my father died of cancer and the color of somebody's skin was last thing on our minds. This is pure example of projection.

Still that way in minds of many in our State. VA. We had no pool for Black Children when I grew up. My sister went around with a can trying to collect money to have them build us a pool. Many who call themselves Christians are Churchitians !
