Ай бұрынJeremy Corbyn has won in Islington North as an independent candidate.
The former Labour leader won 24,120 votes - with Labour candidate Praful Nargund only taking around 16,000.
He has held the seat for more than 40 years and has been heavily campaigning locally to keep hold of it.

Well done Jeremy Corbyn. The best news out of last night. Well done to all those who campaigned too and for their hard work, because this is their victory too. It is incredibly hard to win a seat as an independent and this is a testament to Jeremy Corbyn's enduring popularity, despite all of the lies and smears. The government that was elected in a "landslide" last night is currently sitting on 33.8% of the vote - considerably less than the 40% of 2017 and only up slightly on the alleged "disaster" of 2019. The reality is that Jeremy Corbyn is far more popular than he has been given credit for and the political establishment continue to be rattled by him. Time to get rid of this absurd voting system now and deliver proper democracy.

Corbyn would have been PM right now had labour's vote share from 2017 and 2019 happened this year and he was the leader. Labour never got much higher share of the vote under Starmer than under Corbyn in 2019 yet labour have got more than double the seats this year, it's certainly most unfair this FPTP system. Also in 2017 labour got over 6% more under Corbyn in 2017 than labour under Starmer this general election despite the right wing media kept claiming that Corbyn had almost zero support and PLP MP's kept on demanding his resignation.

@@denzel270 I live in Islington and I am not privileged. I voted for Jeremy like all the ordinary people I know, because we know rich people do not care about the workers, the disabled and the poor. And the workers can now include the middle classes who suffered a big transfer of wealth from the self employed to the rich during Covid. Jeremy is a hardworking MP. I only wish other constituencies had an MP so visible in the community, so loyal to our causes, and so supportive of our dreams.

I travelled from Port Talbot to campaign for him yesterday, and the love for him was evident from the moment I arrived in Finsbury Park. It was a brilliant day, I have never seen such an energised, well organised campaign, so many good peope working their socks off to get the result. I feel extremely priviliged, if a little tired, to have been a tiny part in what was an historic day.
