Aracely Storrs 1983-2005 and then 2013-Present is more than a few so I'd say it's a pretty important part of his character. But like I don't blame Jeremy for not knowing it's not actors jobs to read about the other versions of characters they play.

no but like how does he not even KNOW if i got the chance to play an existing character i'd learn everything about them and that aspect of hawkeye is super important

but his backstory is really important, and we haven't gotten a taste of that, with his relationship with his father and how he lost his hearing. he also never had a family in anything except for in the MCU, which came out of nowhere, along with his relationship with Natasha.

I understand that, I'm just saying that actors who take their roles seriously and really want to get in to their characters' headspaces would study all source material. Not to mention that it would also be extremely helpful to the LGBT+ community to go with the asexual version of Hawkeye

Hey listen, Jeremy did as much preparation for the role as he needed to to serve his purpose in this franchise. Clearly it's worked, cause I dont hear anybody complaining about Hawkeye's performance in these movies. And, in case you didnt know, actors dont always get to choose exactly what and how they play a character. What if Jeremy said, "hey guys, yano Hawkeye has a mask, right? Kinda looks like wolverine but its purple." So now they've gotta give him a mask just because that's his artistic choice as the actor?

@@courtlynmartinez5665 I realise how old this is, but to answer the unanswered, I think it's because he said he liked Hawkeye because he was a "human being" implying deaf people aren't. At least that's what I think the gripe is. Personally, I don't see it. The way Hawkeye was written for Thor and Avengers, that's what drew in Renner. He had/has no prior knowledge to the comic books (he admits it in the video), so the only appealing thing is the film's script and character. After all, he's an actor first. Renner understood his character would be a big contrast to powerhouses in the film, and that was why he likes Hawkeye; an average guy in comparison. He said it himself, he couldn't pull off a Thor, but instead something that's downplayed/grounded. Even being deaf is unappealing to him, maybe because it'd be too much of a challenge.

Kobe Bonhomme dude you are misunderstanding everything he said. Renner said he wouldn't play a deaf hawkeye because he wouldn't know how. Every actor and every person has their own preferences on things, and that role was one of his. He also said in this video that he was attracted to the role because Clint was a human being! Meaning that the character didn't have superpowers! Meaning that nonsuperpower people in these movies can be as much of a hero as the ones who do have powers! Never once has this man said "Deaf people aren't people" you read into what he was saying the wrong way. If you truly knew this man and as an actor you would know that he would never belittle someone

It seems like he doesn't care which is dumb, and it certainly seems like Marvel/Kevin Fiege doesn't care which is even worse. IDK it's just a shame since I relate so much to the character of hawkeye in the comics, and to not see that represented in the comics is such a fucking waste. Cause also, it ain't that hard to play a deaf person, especially a deaf person who can still speak clearly. You would probably have to learn sign language but where's the issue with that?? Also, Hawkeye can read lips really fucking well!! I'm not saying his intentions for this answering of the question was to be rude, it just came off that way.

the run the girl is talking about would be matt fraction’s which began releasing in 2012 - years after Renner was cast and was impossible to incorporate to the films. the actual deaf storyline even further in 2015. hawkeye had only been deaf once before in the mid 80s-90s and even then that is 20 whole years after he was first introduced in in 1964. hawkeye’s deafness wasn’t crucial to the character like blindness is for daredevil, it has just become popular in recent comics after 2015 because it is lovely representation. but people need to understand it’s more of a new thing and there are way more universes where clint isn’t hoh, even the cartoons etc.
