Thomas Jane as the Punisher was one of the best castings in pre-Disney Marvel. I feel like he’s kind of hidden from the spotlight now but he’s still working..

I think Ray Stevenson was better, Jane was good also. Worst Punisher is Lundgren.

Excuse me while I throw up. The Tom Jane Punisher is mediocre at best. And Dirty Laundry is a fucking insult to the character, made by people who DO NOT understand Frank Castle AT ALL and liked by people who understand him just as poorly.

Yes. I love that film. Even though there's unrelatable aspects of his character for most people. He still feels extremely relatable and realistic in the ways that are important.

Totally agree. I didn't feel anything while watching Silent Night. I almost felt like there was something wrong with me. Glad I just rented Silent Night, but I bought Nobody. What that film had but this film didn't was heart. Every middle aged guy could relate to the guy.

I wondered during the movie if they were both supposed to release last year but they pushed this movie back to avoid brand confusion. All the dates of SILENT NIGHT were 2021 - 2022 which I thought was a little odd. Yeah, just found this on Wikipedia: "Principal photography began in April 2022 in Mexico City. Filming wrapped on May 17, 2022." So that explains it.

Completely agree. Although I love all John Woo movies, "Hard boiled" is so "lighthearted" in comparison to his other works that it almost feels optimistic. It's a feel good power fantasy movie.

My favorite and really only comic book hero is The Punisher. In my humble opinion, the Thomas Jane Punisher is not very good at all. The Punisher needs a movie that really just gets back to basics of what the Punisher is. What he looks like. And source material with no added bs.

I saw a VHS of "Black Moon Rising" back in the day, that had completely insane subtitles (not an English-speaking country) where the whoever who wrote them completely make up lines that nobody in the movie says, and in one scene where two cops get blown up the subtitle suddenly says "Poor bastards".

It’s pulled off very well.

You need to watch "All is Lost" for a film devoid of any dialogue once the opening narration is done. One line and one word is all Robert Redford spoke in that film. There is nothing radical about the approach to this obnoxiously stupid film. Except to people who don't watch many films other than scrolling through tons of Netflix shit and saying oh I'm bored I'll watch this and fall asleep 15 minutes in.

It depends on what you mean by his "American movies". His style has cleanly translated over to the States without issue. It's always going to be over the top. Woo invented "Gun-Fu" and the Wachowski's themselves credit him incessantly with informing much of the core fighting style and cinematographic flourishes on the Matrix. Max Payne cribbed whole elements from Woo and it worked incredibly well within a totally different medium. I'm not sure what you were expecting when he made action movies in America and how it'd be any different.

@@Skoora I put that in quotes because I question the underlying logic. Over the top action, doves and slow-mo is Woo's whole shtick. Expecting anything different based on where his movies are made doesn't make sense to me. Some styles need to be tamped down. Like when Jean-Pierre Jeunet goes from Amélie to Alien: Resurrection, but for Woo, it translated super well because (especially in the late 90's) everything was dialed to 11. TNT was a network dedicated to movies like Face/Off, Con Air and The Rock. I enjoy his movies he made here in the states. They are fun and inventive and super stylish genre-fare that may now seem absurd by today's standards. But again, movies like John Wick have proven that style can absolutely trump script when the core vision is solid.

I never had a problem with it. Always liked it. The original MI is actually my least favorite of the series. I still like it, it's just last on the list.
