I don’t think we can throw shade on a $400 guitar if it gets the job done. No need for nothing fancy. I have some nice guitars. My first acoustic was a $300 Epiphone EL-00. It was just so so , but I stuck with it because it is playable and has the “right” vibe. Now, seven years later the solid top has come into its own nicely. I upgraded the saddle, the end pins and most importantly the nut to Graphtech. The action is set real low, and it plays quite well. I’ve tuned it down a half step for more bluesy funk and to enhance its character. And now I got a bitchin guitar!

Jeremy, Thank you for your informative and heartfelt review of the new Guild A-20. I had a chance to play this guitar in a Guitar Center on the first day it came out earlier this month. I was impressed with its playability, and, as you pointed out, its resonant bottom end. I was waiting for a review of this kind before seriously considering buying one. I've been playing professionally since in the '60s, mostly on a vintage Martin HD-28, but a hand injury has led to me to look for an affordable, smaller instrument with a shorter scale length and slightly wider nut so I can keep playing at home (something we are all having to do a lot of this past year) while I recover. The Guild A-20 might be a unique, practical, and very unexpected solution. Again, my thanks for your thorough review! I was not tuned into Bob Marley back in the day, but from your description of the man, his personal philosophy and world view certainly resonates with my own. Best wishes to you!

As a new player, I find the wider nut width to be very forgiving. The strings don’t feel crowded together at all and as someone who likes fingerstyle it’s perfect for that. Easy to strum too if that’s your thing. All around good for it everything.

Jeremy, I watched this again and want to say, I actually listened to Marley when he was alive. Never a huge fan but it was the '70s, what can I say.... I do think that should also find some positive feedback on the Kloss. It is obvious you are unhappy you selected the travel size even though you will never be pleased with the tone of any. Some guys such as myself may be interested in something a little smaller. Don't because a guitar snob Yesterday I looked at an Ibanez AC34 OPN Because it is small, cheap and sounds amazing at $300. I have a bad shoulder and I don't want to reach over a dreadnought every day. I don't care for the GS mini and don't need a $15-1800 AD Taylor (but it would be fun to have one).I need a decent playable guitar to stay in shape and suffer only when giggling. I'll play more blues 💙 😎 Be nice, but honest, love your neighbors.

Here is a general rule about all musical instruments. The person playing them makes more of a difference in the sound. Spend your extra money and time on playing better and more. A decent 300 buck guitar should last most people a long time without being too cheap. I think people tend to over analyze the guitar and not there skill level. Marley probably played this guitar cuase it was not expensive and he didn't want to worry about a 2k martin walking off. Lastly back in the day before the interwebs you wanted a guitar you went tot he local store and bought one. So this may have been what he sourced easily in his area at the time.

Thanks for the review. I think you’re missing the point of this guitar and that’s the fact they were trying to replicate bob’s guitar. You keep mentioning that it’s not solid wood. Guild has solids but that construction prices out the starter or the Everyman. You didn’t note that laminated wood is resistant to heat and humidity, which is a good thing for the everyday player. You also forgot to mention that they include bone nut and bridge saddle and that the neck is 1.75 inches. Those details are usually reserved for much more expensive guitars. Based on the sound quality I hear in your video, the guitar sounds fantastic. Did you mention the neck thickness and shape? I ask because I’ve purchased two expensive new guitars built last year and both have thin necks. For me, a thicker neck is more comfortable. All things considered, my opinion is that this guitar and the case are a great value without compromising quality. I’ve ordered one and can’t wait to experience it in person.

I wouldn't call 399$ incredibly affordable but for what it sounds like it beats some of the cheaper laminated Martins I've played. I was in between the a20 and a breedlove but went with the a20. The sound is impeccable for 399$. Very playable. Kind of comparable to a Taylor neck. It has great projection and mid range that a lot of acoustics in this price range just don't have. As far as I know it is all solid so don't let it bother you. Lol Mine has open pore type finish. Guild says it sold top spruce and mohagany solid back and sides. Hat's off to Guild.

Try going back to the 80's and 90's and see what you got for $399.....I can tell ya, not much and not anything near the quality or sound of these China built Guilds. Just because its in China don't mean its not good, its still the Guild Guitar Company regardless of location. You don't see people not driving cars and trucks just because they aren't made in the USA. The made in the USA brand is dead on a world wide scale, China actually does a better job and for cheaper than most anything built in the USA anymore. I know, I have a few $5,000 hand made boutique guitars that don't sound much better if any than these $500-$700 China made Guilds! Now they look nicer and have more bling, but as far as sound and playability, its pretty much a wash!

i tried one out at GC, and i noticed how quiet it is. it just has no "oomph" to it. it's probably decent for fingerpicking or soft strumming, but when i really strummed, it just didn't have the volume. on the plus side, it felt SUPER comfy in my hands. the strings felt very soft. it was very easy to barre on, and i almost bought it just for that alone (barring on my Seagull S6 with high tension can be really hard). i'd buy this guitar for $179 - $199, just for the fun and the collectability...but $400 + tax is just too steep. it's a $150 instrument with a $400 brand name, sorry Bob, i love you but that's just not enough guitar for my money =/

I don’t know what race/color you are , BUT I find it EXTREMELY DISTURBING that “white” people can be XYZ and have infinite hobbies , BUSINESSES etc ., and no one says anything . Soon as a Black person or person of color ( and women too for that matter ) does something OUTSIDE of what they NORMALLY do or get paid to do , here comes people , like yourself , with the “ Why don’t you people just concentrate on one thing ? “ A female FOX News personality told LeBron James to “ Just shut up and dribble “ . Meanwhile that man has used his own money to BUILD A SCHOOL for under served humans in his hometown ! I wonder if you sir/ma’am had/have the same sentiment about Trump splattering his name on everything he can ? One Love ✌🏾

@@bxsoup preach brother.... there is NOTHING in the Rastafarian culture or belief system that prohibits or discourages doing honest business--in fact, participating in honest free trade is celebrated and praised, because people should be independent. Bob's music reflected this: Fire is burning, man, pull your own weight! Fire is burning, man, pull your own weight! - Ride Natty Ride (1979) if anything, we need MORE people of color who own businesses and promote positive economy. it's the only way people of color can earn independence in a harsh, hostile world, and respect among the white majority in many Western nations. i say to the Marley family: sell your stuff, friendos! there's nothing wrong with owning a business. it doesn't hurt anyone. it isn't like selling drugs to children or robbing people. it's honest work for an honest buck. people have this bs belief that people of color are "spiritual" by nature. that they're somehow "better" or "above" people who want to earn a lot of money. pffft, who doesn't want to be rich? Bob wasn't giving away his albums and concert tickets for free. and why should he have? business is business, it's exchanging a service for money. that's fair, free trade. Native Americans traded. tribal Africans traded. all people everywhere have traded and profited. people gotta just realize that black people are just PEOPLE, regular human beings like everyone else.

Their CNCs aren't as good as American or German made. You've got to be kidding. It all depends on how the company manages the operation overseas. If they do a good job with it, and the quality control, it's fine.

I’m ordering one. If it has issues I’ll send it back for full refund. There was a few reviews that said they had buzzing or that the neck was not installed correctly. I’m going forward with fingers crossed.
