It's really interesting to see the Lich like this. A powerful threat that originally would stop at nothing until everything was dead eventually sparing the lives of 3 people after achieving his goal and becoming devoid of purpose. He spared them because he WANTED to. I wonder if he would genuinely miss BMO, the closest thing to a living being he had left. Now, he's truly all alone. Poor Jerry... Guess he got what he deserved.

ppl saying that reason why Lich didn't kill em is bc he too depressed or unmotivated, but I think the one who stop him is Betty, if u listen closely u can hear a whispering voice when Lich eyes close the second time. maybe Betty take control or whispering to Lich not to kill them.

I wonder if this is technically the original timeline that we had seen throughout Seasons 1 through 4. The Lich’s half-exploded face means that the events of _The Lich_ happened, but him still inhabiting Billy’s body and the treehouse still being intact seems to imply that everything that occurred during and after _Escape from the Citadel_ didn’t happen. In addition, BMO’s description of the events is rather suspicious. (“One day, everyone became a skeleton. Then Jerry came.”) After the Lich makes his wish the first time, he’s teleported out of Prismo’s time room. From what BMO said, it seems as if this is where the Lich went after he made his wish in the time room. Just because Jake made a wish to undo the Lich’s wish doesn’t necessarily mean that the original wish didn’t happen. I think this is the Season 1 through 4 reality because not all wishes need to create wish-altered realities. This is mentioned by Prismo in _Jake the Dog_ when he talks about the monkey paw-esque nature of his wishes, with his example of the back rub man getting taken from his family. This is also supported by Shelby’s wish to give his girlfriend a new pony in _Wake Up._ Shelby’s asking for a pony didn’t need to create a whole new reality to satisfy the requirements of his wish. Finn and Jake’s wishes, on the other hand, demanded that the timeline be changed, and therefore needed wish-altered realities to be created to satisfy their demands. Because the Lich made his wish first chronologically, and because his wish didn’t require extensive reworking of the timeline, I think that the Lich was just sent back to his original reality. Jake’s wish for everything to go back to normal probably necessitated the creation of an alternate reality, though, and I think this is shown by both the Lich *and* Finn (whose original self apparently went into the Farmworld universe) reappearing back into Prismo’s Time Room. I guess this means that the only survivors of the original timeline are Finn, Jake, BMO, the Lich, and possibly Minerva, the MO Civilization (if AMO didn't destroy it), and anything else that’s robotic. Everyone else that we ever knew and loved is dead. One of the issues that I can see with this hypothesis is with what the Ice King was doing immediately before the mass-extinction event, in his Ice King tapes. In Adventure Time, he was scolding Gunther for stealing his crown’s jewels, but in this episode he was filming one of his famous penguin plays and his crown was in his drum's kickbox. We know this was taped before/during the extinction event, because Ice King never reclaims his crown from the kick drum. The gems of power still would've automatically returned to their original positions after the portal closed, as was observed after Finn and Jake go back home to Ooo, so it’d theoretically make sense for the gems to return to the crown while it was still in Ice Kings drum, but that does not explain the Ice King's differing behavior seen on tape. Plus, he doesn’t have the vandalism on his face from when Finn and Jake wrote on him with marker when they stole his crown’s jewels. One justification for this is that the Lich’s wish taking effect had a delay after he made it, which *could* possibly explain why PB drew Finn on her whiteboard before all life went extinct (trying to figure out where he went after he went through the portal)? But I’m unsure whether this explanation would be likely. Another potential issue with this is the presence of Finn’s BRB note seen in the treehouse when the gang are exploring it, which Finn made *way* later in Season 10's _Temple of Mars,_ which mucks up the continuity.

I realize for cake and Fiona (these versions of them) this is something worse than a physical fight or the light magic they faced. A reminded that beings like the lich could end fantasy with the right thoughts

I really do not think Betty stopped the Lich or intervened. I think it is exactly what Simon says, the Lich has grown more depressed in this world where he won. Not quite redeeming himself exactly but he is not actively doing evil(At this point, time will tell what he does now that he sees the portal)

BMO was sadly the only one spared from the Lich’s wish since BMO is technically not alive

Hopefully they didn’t just get Ron back for one singular line.

This wish altered reality is called "The Extinct World" and it was created when The Lich wished for the extermination of all life in the episode "Finn the Human".

Does this mean that ice king was always aware of how powerful the lich was but decided not to take him seriously?

It’s not in this episode but how was Betty not be able to keep the scarab off Simon when he was in that hallucination or whatever? Like the writers kinda dropped the ball on that one
