Would like to point out that over here in England we have grass at every single football stadium (Soccer), and they still run a whole lot of music events at these statdiums basically weekly and never have an issue. We also have worse weather than most of these NFL teams.

You absolutely do not have worse weather than "most of these NFL teams". England weather doesn't even come close to stadiums that deal with earthquakes, hail, snow, hurricanes, flooding...etc. American weather is the most drastic in the world due to geography.

@@iamjamesmix We're on the front of the Atlantic too, bro, we're also more northern than ALL of the US, and also most of Canada. The only reason it doesn't get massively cold in winter is because we get updraft from the south.. HOWEVER, we're also on the front of the Atlantic Ocean, so during our winters (Football season), it rains more here than it does in New York, it's about as windy here as it gets in Toronto, and the weather changes in seconds. They say if you're preparing for a day in London you should bring a suitcase not an outfit. you can make a case for Chicago, Buffalo, Minnesota (dome), Detroit (Dome), Seattle, the Ohio and New Jersey teams (that ones a stretch), but the rest, not even close.

@@SpasticSex I'm from Minnesota and live in Minnesota btw. Green Bay? Not to mention how bout outside of the NFL. We have Allianz stadium and hosted a WC Qualification match in -30F degree weather. Kansas City is in direct hit of cold and warm fronts and is deep in Tornado Alley. Louisiana to Florida to North Carolina has Hurricanes to deal with. Your weather is no where near what the states have because of the Trans-Atlantic drift. UK gets rain and sprinkles of snow. Try Minnesota where one day it's 65F and the next it's 25F (below freezing temp). Also our buildings have to be designed for 100F degrees to -40F degrees. UK weather as graded by Meteorologists is the same as the state of Washington. We already have that UK weather here and Seattle's NFL stadium is also not a dome. So I really don't get what you're talking about when it comes to weather between the two places. There is way more structural engineering within our stadiums because of the weather than anything in the UK.

Can a player sue the NFL over injuries? If its in the last collective bargaining can they sue NFLPA for agreeing to it?

There’s also the factor of guys moving faster on turf compared to grass, thus more forceful collisions + strain on joints or muscles to stop and cut. Simms has been on this for years and I 1000000% agree with the players on this. It’s a duh.

The tobacco industry had plenty of individual data to say cigarettes aren’t harmful. Fossil fuel producers have plenty of individual data to argue the climate isn’t changing and if it is, it isn’t due to human activity. Now Jerry has individual data to say turf doesn’t cause more injuries than grass. But science works on consensus and reviewing ALL the data.

You are approaching owner's that refuse to change to grass the wrong way. Say to the owner's, " No,I understand you cannot afford a grass field." Or start reporting, "We all know (owner X) is rich but he cannot afford a grass stadium". There's not many things a rich person hates more than to be told ,or perceived, as not being able to afford something. Their egos will not allow them to keep bucking grass fields if the media starts low key shaming them that "only the ricjest of NFL owner's can afford grass stadiums."

Can't speak for other countries but even on the lowest levels of soccer in Germany they play on grass only. I've never seen an artificial turf being used for organised soccer in my life. Not even on the lowest levels of hobby weekend beer leagues 🙃

If there were no indoor stadiums, there would be no turf.

That's the tradeoff. Back in the day ALL stadiums were outdoors on natural grass and if by December the field turned into mud or frozen tundra, too bad, players were playing on it and the fans had better dress appropriately. And it wasn't an issue -- it was understood. It came with the territory. Then came the Astrodome and Astroturf (which was nothing more sophisticated than a polyethylene carpet -- the first attempt to put a field INSIDE a covered building for the comfort of the spectators and the ability to play in a climate-controlled environment. There were just as many injuries on Astroturf as there is on Field Turf, although the predominant issue was skin burns from friction on the surface. If the players want grass it's gonna be a tall order. There are localities where it would be impossible to install a roll-in/roll-out natural grass playing surface like Arizona's, which would necessitate rebuilding stadiums with no roof or a retractable roof (the latter would be better though not ideal). I just don't think at this point that'll ever happen, despite the fact that owners have the money and would have their hands out bilking taxpayer dollars to retrofit a stadium.

Has anyone considered developing better turf? Surely it's not impossible for scientists to make astroturf better match the softness/the give that grass offers with today's technology. Surely the NFL, with the billions upon billions of dollars in its coffers, can fund this R&D?

As somebody who has experinced both: turf monkeys are a bitch, but career-ending injuries like RG3 are worse. Turf is hard to fall on, but only if you are diving in the air trying to make a tackle. That and the economic side of it. Really bad take from both of these guys here. F-
