The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

My grandmother was the biggest George Jones fan, and she use to tell me her favorite quality was his ability to sing a sad song and be able to hear the sadness in his voice. And I would counter that Jerry Lee Lewis was the master of that quality... Everybody thinks about the fire and passion of whole lot of shaking or Great balls of fire. But in the sixties when he turned the country music and would record those songs you could hear the pain and sadness in his voice no matter what he sung it bring you to tears cuz you knew he felt whatever he was saying about I think that is a quality not many have but he had it in spades

In my concrete basement I somehow pulled over a large formica and chrome table and put a chair on top of that and the record player on top of that to plug it in to the only electric by the light socket to play it. Not sure if my young friends were as impressed. But, I loved it. Playing Great Balls of fire at age 7 over and over! Nothing like JLL. Another who was SO far ahead of the times. Once you got past the explosiveness, you hear his voice and playing, it made rock and roll what it was/is. Great clip, thanks for sharing!!!

I was always amazed and fascinated the way he played those pearly whites. Jerry Lee Lewis could make that piano play.
Stay on your way 🛤️✨
