We are snowbirds that rent and receive a resident ID (the owner gives up his ID during the rental period) and don’t pay anything extra although it is probably in the rent. The resident ID gives you the same privileges as any other resident. I think it is more common for snowbirds to rent 3 or 4 months in Florida and the rest of time stay up north. That way you miss the northern winter and the hot Florida summer. The other advantage of renting is that you can try different parts of Florida. Might not work for everyone but we like the flexibility.

Comment addressed to Mike, its unfortunate but the reputation of NY’ers precedes them and it isn’t good. Live in Maine, worked years for a well known retail camping outdoor company. Lots of NY tourists frequent here and the “in a NY minute” fits well. If more NY’ers could leave The Big City attitude behind their reception could be more welcoming. Honestly, I came home one night from work helping customers vacationing from all over the country and realized why us Northeastener’s have such a bad reputation. By comparison the Southener’s and Midwestener’s are the kindest, most appreciative, patient people ever. Manners and thank you’s, even a “ how are you today?!” A joy to be around. Mike sure you can improve on this image 😊

I think the political climate and the media have done much harm in attempting to divide us by race, religion, age, region and ideology. I left all social media because of the hateful, dangerous attacks taking place. I’m so much better without Facebook and Instagram. We need to individually fight against division and not allow others to influence how we see and treat others. We need to seek those things we have in common - and there are many. We’re all here for such a short time.

I liked your discussion of New Yorkers Jerry. When I first moved from IL to CT many years ago, I was taken aback by many people’s “apparent” rudeness. But soon realized that rudeness isn’t an absolute - there’s a continuum, and the norms vary around the country. The way that many of them are isn’t necessarily rude, it’s perhaps more open, honest, and real. It can be refreshing if you embrace it. On the contrary, the way that many southerners or midwesterners behave can seem phony, or as if they’re hiding what they really think because they’re trying to be too polite. It’s good to have differences and to embrace different perspectives - it makes life more interesting.

@@dawittywats1934 Well, how rude! jk I was afraid I might offend someone, and I apologize for that. It’s a complicated subject, & it gets dangerous when you make generalizations about a whole group of people (but being PC gets us nowhere). I get upset with New Yorkers quite often (especially when driving), but most of them are very nice, and very interesting (and yes, opinionated) once you get to know them. I think we all just need to try to appreciate all different types of people even if we don’t yet fully understand them. Life can be tough in NYC, so you gotta be tough to make it, maybe they’ll soften up the longer they’re down there. Then again, some people are just jerks and will never change - try to avoid them, and don’t let them get to you. Oh, and have a nice day.

Hi Folks. I wrote a couple of weeks ago and really do like your show. Very honest and candid. My comment on the "Nawth" snowbirds is this: Northeast city and suburb dwellers do have more stressors (traffic, etc.) but not an excuse for attitudes. Outside of city (mid-state, upstate) more like mid-western and very nice to have around. Same held true on the gulf coast.

Hi Jerry and Linda, A few comments on Monday's Mailbag. Have you heard the term "snowflake?" A "snowflake" is someone who stays here less than six months. I use the term to describe folks renting 1-3 month. Next, before purchasing in June 2020, I rented in TV for three months over four years. As a renter, I did experience discrimination from homeowners. Mostly from the neighbor ladies golf and card groups; however, it didn't make me want to be here any less. I just found folks who welcomed me. It's all about how you turn lemons into lemonade. And, finally, when I rented, the homeowner would relinquish his/her residence ID at the time of my rental, and I would pay the $50 fee to secure a residence ID, which allowed me use of all amenities, as a resident even though in fact I was a renter. That's all folks. Toodles, from Flora, Jake and Lola

There has always been t a stigma between southerners and New York ….I lived in NY for 60 years and just moved to Florida in May. When we came to Florida we didn’t waste any time getting our Florida plates because we didn’t want ppl to know we were from there. I think a lot of the “bad blood” is because they realize that NY Is mostly a Democratic state and they don’t want northerners to flee NY lockdowns and bring their politics to Florida. I totally understand … and we left NY because of the politics and love our new Governor. So not all nEw Yorkers are bad 😁… we are thrilled to be here !

Hi this may be a long comment. The Villages is advertised as a retirement community. However anyone of any age over 19 can live in The Villages. They cannot own a home in The villages but they can rent from an owner. So to answer the question about the prejudice against New Yorkers I would respond this way. An elderly parent in their 70s or 80s may have their adult 40 to 50 year old child come and live with them permanently to help them. Keep the yard clean, do shopping, take them to the doctors. Normal stuff. If you read The Villages newspaper and you come across an article about drunk driving, disorderly conduct, other sorts of smaller crimes many times the perpetrator is a person under the age of 55 who has come down to take care of their elderly parents. Also in the article it will tell where that person is from. in many cases the person is male, and comes from the state of New York New , New Jersey, Massachusetts. Not all are from this area but many are. I think that is where the prejudice against New Yorkers comes from. I could be wrong but that's just what I gather from reading The Villages news. Also the surrounding area may not be able to use the fitness centers or the pools or things like that but they do have full access to the town square, they can drink and dance on the square, they can visit any restaurant on the Square, shop on the square. So the seniors and the residents are not separated from anyone who wants to just drive off the street off of 441 off of 301 or any other access to the Villages. As noted The Villages is a community with Gates not a gated community.

Yes, there is a center in The Villages. I don't know much about it.

Just went to the Dermatologist today, Jerry, and my face now looks like yours! lol There must be a sale on the little freezing gadgets! I told the doctor that they should start selling a smaller version of that gadget at CVS and Walgreens so that we can do it at home.

Oh Jerry, I hear ya when it comes to the dermatologist. I go every 6 months to have places froze. I guess that's the price we pay for having fair complexion.

Hello from NH! Found your channel accidentally a month or so ago and am hooked! Hubby and I have a handful of years til retirement; we will definitely be checking out the villages when it comes time. See you when we get there 😜. (Hey, did you know you put Jan 15 in today’s Mailbag Monday? You retirees really don’t know what day or month it is! Can’t wait to have that problem...Lol)

Thanks, Candice! Brain freeze! This one is Feb. 15, 2021... TODAY! 😜 We have a template that we change the date and color on each week. This week evidently Jerry 😯 forgot to change the date! Sorry.

Hi Jerry and Linda, thanks for yet anther interesting and informative video. Love the mailbag Monday intro. Very professional. That Dublin calendar looks interesting. You may be interested to know that Dublin has a light rail tram system similar to here in Melbourne Australia. I have a friend here in Australia, who spent some time years ago in Baton Rouge LA. well done to you both guesting on Skip's Wednesday Night Live. That was a real highlight to the show. You have salt water pools there? Excellent!!! I remember back up in Sydney where I used to live they had an indoor salt water pool at Ramsgate, which was absolutely awesome. They even had a miniature island in the centre of the pool. I have great memories of visiting there with friends. You mentioned about New York people. I would imagine that the pace in New York would be quite fast and in some situation, this can affect people's actions and responses. Once again, this is only with certain people and certainly not the entire population. I noticed this when living in Sydney Australia, being a faster pace of life in comparison to here in Melbourne. Anyway, take care and all the very best. Robert.

Jerry, just so you know veterans living outside The Villages can attend a club in a recreation center. Of course the club must have something to do with the military. Our US Navy CT club has a couple of men who live outside TV. One of them served on the USS Pueblo when it was captured by the North Koreans in 1968.

Grass lawn in The Villages - what’s more prevalent, Saint Augustine? Zoysia? Is astroturf allowed?
@JERRYANDLINDA3 жыл бұрын
We have Empire Zoysia. Many have St Augustine. Haven't seen astroturf.

I go every year to dermatologist to get spots froze on my face and ears. Sometimes I think she love pulling the trigger more than she needs to and when you get the bill and see how much each pull of the trigger cost it's like wow. I guess it's the price you pay for being in the sun. GREAT MAILBAG TODAY
