This video will teach you everything you need to know about replacing JUST THE GLASS on your Galaxy S5 Smartphone. If your glass screen is cracked, shattered, or completely obliterated like the one in the video, you can fix it yourself for super cheap. I do recommend watching the video entirely all the way through to make sure it is something you want to do with your phone. It is not an easy repair, and the success rate is low.
You do not need to buy ALL of the parts listed above, just the ones you need for your particular repair. The LOCA glue i used in this video was a 50ml bottle, the glue that comes with the kit I linked is a 5ml bottle. So distribute it evenly on the screen.

If the glass is particularly shattered, try putting strips of tape across it. While you take it off, it'll stay together better with less tiny glass shards around.

Thank-you for being so well thought out in your videos. I lost count of how many tutorials I watched before attempting my first S4 glass only replacement. I have now successfully completed this repair three times now, and will be replacing the glass on an S5. With the knowledge I have gained from your tutorials, and photos of my finished products, I have been blessed with enough extra income to not be stressed out over the holiday season. I didn't have any spare playing cards around, but I did use an envelope as a wire/card hybrid. Thank-you so much for your how to's as well as your common mistakes video. :-)

Finally someone gives me a real temperature (Heat until you can just barely touch it is not proper directions) Now I can just warm up the bed to my 3D printer to around 95-97 C ..... It beats the heck out of using a heatgun. My only complaint is using an IR temp gun doesn't work very well on reflective or glass surfaces. You are actually going to be 10-20C warmer than you are actually reading. I found this out testing glass to print on and then using a good thermocouple Kapton taped to the glass and comparing that with my IR temp gun. The same thing goes for shiny aluminum heatsinks, the IR reading is always going to be a tad low. Not a real big deal but something to be aware of especially around heat sensitive things like AMOLED screens I should make a 'click bait' video "How I used my 3D printer to fix my Samsung S5" ....... Sure it's mostly BS but I bet it would get a ton of hits ...... and a lively comments section

And will screw some people too, meaning that if you hadnt posted this video at all, just as many people would have a working phone as without it. At least I could use my phone before watching this, but now i can use it for NOTHING. Im fucked. I cant get calls. Or texts. Fuck my career I guess. Remind us 20 times of 206 degrees, blah blah, 15 min of watching you slide a card around, but never taking the time to describe actually WHAT FUCKING PARTS you are sliding between. 'just carefully slide it in there' my ass.. I watched this 10 times, and NEVER ONCE do you say to get between the digitizer and the glass, and keep the DIGITIZER LAYER STUCK TO THE LCD LAYER, AND PRY THEM BOTH OF OF THE GLASS. What is the point of a video if you dont explain the things we need to know!?!?!? I could have wrecked my phone without this video, thank you very much. If anyone reading wants to know how to NOT WRECK YOUR FUCKING PHONE, contact me before attempting these instructions

Great video! Very specific, clear and concise. I did the glass repair and got an almost perfect result (except by some tiny bubbles in the corner due to lack of enough glue). My phone is working perfectly now and it cost me almost nothing.
@joaovictorcampos9392
@joaovictorcampos9392 6 жыл бұрын
Some tips if you try this for the first time: If you don't have a heating plate, you can use an upside down clothes iron (on the lowest setting) to gently heat up the glass. More glue is more better. It's easier to clean up the excess than to remove the whole screen from the glass because the glue didn't reach the corners properly. If you dont have any specific UV lights, you can use a standard fluorescent black light bulb and it works just as well.

How many ml's are suggested to glue the glass screen back onto the lcd screen? Also FYI for everyone else, I had my Galaxy s5 active cracked pretty bad and used the advice from this video to heat up my phone, with a heat gun, to the point I could only touch for a second and then started pealing off the glass without removing the whole screen from the casing. This worked just as good too and I didnt have to worry about breaking or disconnecting the circuitry to the phone. Cards worked amazing BTW! Thanks for the help. JUST TAKE YOUR TIME, my first phone fix and it took me roughly 3-4 hours to the point where all the glue is rubbed off the phone and ready for the glass to be mounted.
@jasonfredrich7392
@jasonfredrich7392 8 жыл бұрын
Yep that's correct, just be careful not to over heat and still remove the other parts, battery etc. Be careful with amount of glue applied at the end too since it's very difficult to clean up if you don't remove your lcd. But mine works perfectly. Good luck!

I used your instructions on replacing the charger cover for the Galaxy S5. Once you have the part (Ebay) and the smallest screwdriver available (+ or -) it's as easy as you showed it. My entire portion under the screw didn't come off and I was scared of losing the rubber below but it raised up enough to replace the cover. Good instructions. Thanks so much. God Bless

Curious what you charge for glass replacement. I couldn't get it to pay vs the time spent and risk. I haven't done many though

Nice work Jerry. You have the soothing voice of a psychoanalyst so I watched the video while lying on a black leather couch. I had a case of the shakes which in itself can be dealt with but it tends to make me "fumbly." I removed my safety cover (duh) to add the cordless charging back and BINGO, dropped the phone 3 x's. First glass broke. 2nd drop, no apparent damage. 3rd, got a white screen with small colored dots and minimal functioning. Darnit. Found a site which told me to remove battery and apply pressure with my thumbs throughout the area where the battery is located. Put it back together an WHAMMO, it worked. Now I will do your repair and check back in. Thank you and good luck!

AMAZING video, clear and precise instructions. Well done Jerry ! Few questions regarding this video: 1. It is mandatory to remove the digitizer from the phone body? is it possible to replace the glass just by heating the front glass and remove it? Of course it is needed and simple to remove the battery + SIM + SD, but why removing the entire digitizer? 2. if I don’t have a UV lamp, is it possible to cure the LOCA by putting the phone in sun light for an hour? 3. will it be better to cover the broken glass with a sticky tape? This way small pieces of glass will be easier to remove. Thanks a lot man !

I don't have a hot plate and the idea of using a heat gun seems too difficult as this is my first time attempting anything like this. This may be a dumb question, but would an oven work or would that not work since it would get the whole phone hot instead of just the screen?

An oven will wreck the LCD/Digitizer and other components and a hair dryer will take a very, very long time to heat to 97 celsius. I recommend just going with the heat gun. You can get a cheap one at your local Lowe's/Home Depot for like $30 or so. Same with the temp gun. Just be careful with a heat gun not to set it down on anything flammable and work on a hard, non flammable surface. I usually put a big ceramic tile on my wooden desk.

try this The Cause Who knows exactly what triggers these things but if I had to guess it may be a build up of residual charge in the device or dust that’s causing the issue and either making the screen unresponsive to touch or resulting in a total black out of the screen, read on for the solution. How to fix an Unresponsive display or Black screen Samsung Galaxy? Method 1. 1. Power off the phone and make sure it’s completely powered down. 2. Remove the back cover and remove the battery. 3. Hold down the power button for about 1-2 minutes. 4. Leave the phone for 10 minutes or so, go take a walk or something. 5. After the time has passed power on the phone again and that should be enough to restore things to normal including touch or remove the black screen issue completely.

@13.07 when I was applying the glue I messed up and didn't get the glue to the edge and had to much on one side and not enough on the other. In my X pattern of glue I put to much on the bottom right and bottom and not enough on the top left, so I had some air bubbles sadly and it seemed over a ton on other sides and not enough on one. So spread your glue evenly and slowly!! Otherwise, I had TOTAL success. I spent HOURS doing this very slowly watching multiple videos, this one was my go to though because of how detailed the author of the video was. Also, he has a video on what NOT to do! So f' helpful to watch the common mistakes, it's insanely kind of him to ruin a few LCD screens just to teach us what not to do! Best video out there for this. I spent hours doing this, but with this video and the confidence it gave me I could do this in maybe 90 mins or less now. I will do this again but next time apply the glue better and I'll use this video again in a week or so to fix my air bubbles.

Fantastic guide. Just have one question, would a black light be a suitable substitute for a "UV" light, or do you need something specifically for this type of application? My girlfriend has a black light (for parties, etc) and I'm wondering if I could just use that rather than trying to find a UV light.

Completely viable repair option if you can: 1 Avoid cracking or scratching the egg shell like lcd with hours of jabbing at the screen with ever present glass shards. 2. Not discolor the lcd with over heating. 3 Invest in digital hot plate, loca glue, pry tools and lcd when you fail anyway!!! Oh and set aside 3 hours of repair time to save $100 bucks. DON'T ATTEMPT!!!!!!!!!!

Subscribed. Thanks for this video. I had my S5 in my pocket last night (had just taken case off) and leaned over my counter to grab a cup, and voila, the pressure between my leg and counter cracked it. I just ordered all the parts and will repair this sucker once it gets in. The cracks are minimal, shouldn't be near as difficult to get all the glass off!

just buy a new phone, or have it somebody else do the repairs, unless you are doing this for bussiness is not worth it. mine is crack and I'll just keep it as long as still working, there is a lot of risk right there, you better not even try.

Nicely and carefully done JerryRig. Same thing happened to my S5, and after I took it back from the shop service that did the repair it looks that return button doesn't light up at all, while the other button lights on like 85 %.. Any idea of what they did wrong ?

Thank you, Jerry, my S5 is absolutely as new now. It's a pleasure to watch your videos! Thank you so much! For the people who want to try it by themselves: I also used a laser cut adhesiv-tape to place glue the screen back (3$ on eBay), so the phone is water-resistant now, as in original. For guys without UV-Lamp - i have borowed one from my wifes nail-studio-set:) I also used her hair dryer to heat up the display, because my soldering-station produced to much heat at a small area:D

How long did it take you? I love my s5 and wanted to wait one more year to upgrade but I dropped it while taking my dog on a walk. How much did this cost you in total, and how much experience do you have? I've done a repair on an s3 a few years ago but that's about it.

Oh, it took me pretty long, maybe 4 hours - 1 hour preparations, 2 hours for glass separation (was completely broken in tiny pieces), half an hour for LOCA part and another half an hour for putting the stuff back together.

Awesome videos as always !! Right to the point no BS. I have two questions.How come you don't use molds? i'm asking since molds are so inexpensive and can be reused and also i'm assuming making the aligning of the glass easier.my second question is: Can you in the future do some videos on basic soldering for smartphones? Great videos again!!

Thanks for the instructional. May need this in the future. Could you use the residual glue around the edges to glue it back instead of the double sided tape? Would imagine you would need to be pretty fast and hit it with the UV light after reassembling. Not that it would still be IP67 rated but may be able to keep its water resistance.

Thanks for the detailed videos. I tried replacing my screen and the LCD panel and all went well except the left side of my screen doesn't lay flat. I've redone this twice now with the same results. I was careful to remove all traces of glue but something is keeping the screen from seating. Ever have this problem?
