That's an incorrect generalization. If you think modern music is impossible to understand and has no meaning then I would say you're listening to the wrong stations. I love this kind of music but to say that all modern music is trash is just wrong. Now granted a lot of modern hip-hop and rap IS and a fair amount of modern pop but there's more than that out there.

My wife's cousin, Baker Knight, wrote this song hoping that Elvis would perform it. Elvis recorded other songs by Baker Knight but Ricky Nelson picked it up and got the hit with it. Baker Knight also wrote for Dean Martin, Elvis, Ricky Nelson, Frank Sinatra, Perry Como, Sammy Davis Jr, Jerry Lee Lewis and many others. There is a long story behind this song. The short version is that he left Alabama where he had a band and some hits to go to Hollywood and make it big. He did not do well in Hollywood at first and thus Lonesome Town was born.

Lyrics..... There's a place where lovers go To cry their troubles away And they call it Lonesome Town Where the broken hearts stay You can buy a dream or two To last you all through the years And the only price you pay Is a heart full of tears [Verse 2] Goin' down to Lonesome town Where the broken hearts stay Goin' down to Lonesome town To cry my troubles away In the town of broken dreams The streets are filled with regret Maybe down in Lonesome Town I can learn to forget (To forget) Maybe down in Lonesome Town I can learn to forget

I grew up listening to Ricky on the Ozzie and Harriet Show, in case u dont remember where he got his start. It was a family show and fun to watch him and his brother, David, who had no musical talent but was a great brother to Ricky. So many memories and the saddest was hearing of his untimely death at age 45 in yet another airplane crash carrying one our heros from years gone past. RIP Ricky

I was 5. I was watching Rio Bravo with my father and grandfather. Ricky made his entrance in the movie. My eyes widened, and I said, "who the hell is that hottie?" My grandfather laughed, saying, "haha, that's my Shirley!" And my dad went, "Goddammit Shirley Anne!" They both used those lines well with me. Then my father goes,"I knew it!" LOL. Then when the Nelson twins came out, there was more, "trouble," lol!

N O Y O U D O N 'T . . . . . . there is TOO MUCH PAIN. Be thankful you WEREN'T born back then. Because seeing and feeling the loss is more than one person's soul can endure. The key word of this song is: Maybe [" maybe down in Lonesome town, I can learn to forget"]. But what makes this song so sad is . . . that you can never forget. ((Either that era . . . or this era . . . But not both.))

“Lonesome Town”...what a FANTASTIC song! It was common knowledge back in the 50’s that Ricky Nelson was jealous of Elvis (as if he needed to be!). At the time, while in his mid-teens, he was dating a girl who was a BIG Elvis fan. She raved about Elvis all the time! Ricky got tired of hearing her going on and on about Elvis, so he started singing and playing the guitar just to show her that he could do it, too...and do it just as well, I may add!
