"Drop out" as a verb and especially as a noun is pejorative and derogatoryand stigmatizing and unfair to the choice or need to discontinue with schooling. Graduating high school or not doesn't need to be made a morality test. People can be happier adults sometimes because of the choice to stop going to school and even those who don't get their GED are still potentially happy, successful people. But this dialogue in season 3 episode 4 when Lorelai is presenting to the class of high schoolers shows how many people use "getting a GED" as a way to increase their social status to those of other high school graduates, since not graduating high school is so frowned upon. BOY: Did you drop out when you got pregnant with Rory? LORELAI: No, technically, I didn’t drop out. I, uh, I kept going as long as I could while I got pregnant, which I would recommend to any girl. Not the getting pregnant part, obviously. Um, although, uh, if that happens, um, you know. . . it shouldn't. I mean, it could but you should try to avoid it. . . um, anyway, uh, I got my GED, yeah.

@@VioletEmerald what I meant was, in the show, he was thought of as a failure. Only Luke and Rory believed in him and that he can succeed and in the end, he WAS more successful without going through all the schooling compared to Rory who graduated a private school, and an Ivy League college, and unfortunately still ended up not getting New York Times job.

Well it’s harder to find jobs without a degree so that’s why they continue education for more opportunities. Yet now everyone has a degree for the most part. However some people hold higher education against others now.

Yeah Dean got worse..cheating on his wife, Rory got a little stuck up and was the other woman with Dean, but Luke and Lorelai were perfect so no need for growth there. Jk but those kids were good. 7th season was written by a complete different person and it shows because the characters aren’t themselves but that’s my opinion. I watched this one video where Rory went in the opposite direction of Jess like Jess started out bad and having no hope for his future with no one believing in him then he gets up and writes a book and makes something of himself while Rory starts out as a good student great boyfriends then she cheats with Dean drops out of Yale when her boyfriend’s father says she hasn’t got what it takes so why bother similar to Jess dropping out of school because why bother? I just like how they both got each other out of those situations. Rory shows Jess that he has potential so he uses it. Jess yells at her and reminds her that her not going to Yale is not who she is. Well anyway novel done thanks for reading. 😅😅

@@avec.ariette people assign moral value to words like rude or nice, and this makes them mistake a nice person for a good person. The truth is, I’ve met rude people who are good, and nice people who are bad human beings. My mom is one of the nicest people I know, and at the same time no one has hurt me and my brother more than her. In fact I value a lot more the honesty that can be found in rudeness. Everyone has bad qualities, but people who are categorized as rude don’t hide theirs. Jess, Rory, Lorelai, Dean and in fact most characters treated other people badly sometimes, but somehow, it is more criticized in Jess’ case because of his blunt nature. Seeing his growth, the fact that from the beginning he showed some hidden selfless attitudes, how he recognized Dean as manipulative (probably due to his own experience with his mother’s boyfriends), the fact that he didn’t take credit for the good things he did, and that he didn’t cheat on Shane, even if they weren’t serious, tells me that he was in fact a much better person than many on the other characters.

@@indiesunflowers oh, I completely agree. To be honest with you, I wish she would've gotten together with someone like Marty or even Tristan. They treated her WAY better than any of her actual boyfriends (honestly, I'm a little iffy on tristan but I still think he's better than dean, jess, and logan)

@@indiesunflowers That's why I said I'm iffy on her "relationship" with tristan. I wrote that and then I reflected on how he was a complete bully. If we're being honest, I think all of her boyfriends could be better, especially because Dean, Jess, and Logan were practically teenagers and didn't really understand how to treat someone with respect when dating them. I still stand by my statement that she should have gotten together with Marty or someone that was kind and really wanted the best for her. But, I think that because he is a "nice guy" the situation would have never presented itself, especially considering her past relationships and how she likes "bad boys"

In 2000 when the show started i was 7 going to turn 8 i grew up watching this show im rewatching it again for the 700th time and now i know wy i am the way i am is because of this adorable guy and oh not to mention my first boyfriend s name is jessie i called him jess and there too much alike and yet im still friends with jess till this day 15 years going strong and i still love him even though were not together anymore but i know he still has feelings for me its never the right time

Jess is easily the most likable and sympathetic character. Yes he is not perfect but he grows and changes to become a better person especially considering what he has gone through it’s not said directly but insinuated that Liz is not a good mom leaving Jess to basically raise himself. He ends up being one of the most successful individuals writing his own book, forgiving his mom, and having a loving relationship with Luke. Not to mention the multiple times he’s knocked sense into Rory like when he convinced her to go back to Yale or write a book.

Since everyone seems to forget that Jess sexually assaulted Rory here is a direct play by play. You can also go watch the scene. It is at 38:50 in season 3 episode 19. He puts her down on the bed and kisses her after not answering her about what's wrong. While he is on top of her she says"Jess wait" once then "Jess wait again" and then she started struggling and trying to push him off. If you watch his hands they are clearing in her crotch and he won't stop kissing her even after she tells him to wait twice and struggles to push him off for about 20 seconds. After she finally got him off, he says "Jeez!" all pissed. Then he proceeded to yell at her afterwards for not wanting to go further. I won't type out the whole yelling sequence, you can go watch it for yourself but the bottom line is that this is assault and defending a character that assaulted her and never even apologized once (not that that would make it okay but still) is so incredibly wrong. It blows my mind that people skip past this point and continue to defend a predator.
