Anybody know the instrumentation on this? I don't see the source of the strange off-key bass note that hits on beats 1 & 2 of the penultimate 2 measures of each verse plus occasional random measures elsewhere, tho looks like he's doing that note with his foot somehow.

Maybe the bass string of the "D" double string.

His own invention he called the footdella or something similar. That cabinet thing in front of him. Basically foot pedals hitting open tuned bass strings.
