RIP Boyd. Jesse and I, are distant cousins, and have shared interest I was tool & die, stock & dirt track. Worked on drag racers, bored quick-change rear ends. Changing the angles on the tubes, to help it launch straighter. Everything is toed-in.

Ah the bead roller. First and last machine I ever got my finger caught in as a kid.

I still have my Ridged pipe wrenches that are over 40 years old. Changed the jaws and spring when needed.👍

I love old tools and equipment. I have a lot of new tools as well because I work on everything and need to keep up with the times but tools that are older than me and function flawlessly with an unmatched superiority always have their special place in my shop and I know they were used before me and some lucky bastard will be using them after I'm gone.

Think about him in another 25 years being one of the guys who pulls it all back from the brink of being lost forever

Unfortunately, for me. I learned if I invested in quality hand tools, they just disappeared. After a few sets, I started buying junk from Harbor Freight. It made jobs, more difficult, but not as difficult as not having any tools. It sucks when you finally realize why old guys, buy junk tools.

Some tools are meant to be replaced some become obsolete for reasons.

He's absolutely right. Buy good tools and maintain them well. Why wouldn't you? That's how you make your money.

Never had acess to anything like that. My bead roller was a hammer, piece of wood, and a piece of steel rod, or my sheet metal brake, angle iron, vice grips and the edge of a steel table. I would love to havw access to things like this, but i have to make things the hard way. Use 20 year old dc tig welders, or cheapest plasma cutter money can buy. Its all we got.

The ability to work and create with your hands and your mind, and the appreciation of quality, tools and the ability to repair things is being lost. Its very reminiscent to the lost of knowledge of how to build a pyramid. Im sure back then the how was basic knowledge, but today we cant figure out how they did anything.
